You're too serious. Think about this: Destroyer was the album that made them my favorite band. I used to place tracing paper over the album then copy it. Then do it again. I was 6. I did the same for Rock and Roll Over.

 

Also in the late 70s, I used to draw pictures of Kiss vs The Avengers. There was a comic out at the time that DID have Kiss & the Avengers. One of the gimmicks was that Kiss' own blood was in the ink used for those comics. You probably know all this already.

 

Put it this way: if you offered me a bowl of Lucky Charms, I'd say, "Cool, thanks. I used to gobble this stuff up." But I can't say that I'd be drooling over it like I used to.

Pretty much in the same boat.... Had a few friends BITD that were big Kiss fans, and I could never get into their stuff in any way, shape, or form. LOVED reading their interviews in Circus and Cream, but just couldn't appreciate their music.

 

In fact, had a friend that worked for them during the Eric Carr years, and he gave me an advance copy of A Show of Hands on CD and video, and he knew I wasn't a fan by any stretch. But yeah...they gave them a good break, and you take what you're given!

I don't think it's being a Rush or a prog fanboi...it's whether you like someone's stuff or not?!?! I know a lot of people that think Springsteen is the greatest musician that ever lived, but I think all his stuff sounds the same...but the man made his mark, you have to give him credit. Frank Zappa probably WAS the greatest musician that ever lived (during our lifetime) but he got like TWO tunes played on the radio over the years with any frequency!

 

As far as Kiss.....their music is marginal, their talent it adequate, but they're marketing genius's!! The fact that Gene was doing the reality TV thing, and STILL looking to sell Kiss related merchandise PROVES that fact!
