goose
"Nobody's Hero" is pretty embarrassing. I really don't understand how this could be name checked as the worst Rush song, nor do I get how it is embarrassing.Lyrics. Worst rock song lead-in lyrics ever? Sure, it's a goofy way to start a song, lyrically. But I'm sure some people would say the same thing about The Trees It certainly grabs the attention of the listener! But not in a good way...and not because of the subject matter. It lacks artistic nuance. Not much different than Live's Lightning Crashes: Lightning crashes a new mother cries/Her placenta falls to the floor Both songs start rather bluntly.. zero nuance, and both are beautiful songs as well. When has Neil ever start a song like this, before or since? Maybe never? Pretty ballsy way to start with both songs if you ask me. I don't think NH lyrics would work as well.. be as powerful.. with subtlety and nuance, IMO.I obviously feel otherwise, and here's an example, from the same song: All their lives were shatteredin a nightmare of brutality What exactly that means isn't clear, which I think gives it power. The word "brutality" connotates "bloody murder" to me. A girl Neil didn't know from a family Neil did know was murdered. That's what those lyrics say to me. The lines after.. "bear the agony", "try to hold some faith in the goodness of humanity", confirms it to me. I'm not certain because I have no first hand knowledge, but it's all but obvious to me this is not fiction but two real stories that came out of Neil's life that inspired the lyrics. Nobody's Hero is one of Neil's most powerful emotional lyrics. Gets me misty-eyed almost every time I hear it. Jaminbenb
To each his own, but I actually held back on that list.... I could have said All of Hold your Fire except Force 10 and Turn the Page, all of Presto except Show Don't Tell, Scars, and The Pass, and all of RtB except Dreamline...but I was nice.... Some tunes are just filler.... Some albums just aren't good....Everyone can't be Hemispheres.... Edited September 24, 2015 by Jaminbenb

Digital Dad
Snakes and Arrows. Except Farcry. I consider the rest one terrible, terrible song. Unbelievable. Snakes & Arrows is one of my favourite albums :( I want to be the S&A ambassador.I am pretty sure you can have it. Somebody probably stepped forward and took this one back when we were "battling" for our favorites but I am not sure who it is to be honest. You can always be a co-ambassador... :) That will do nicely, S&A is probably the only album I can listen to without skipping :D I can skip a few but it depends on my mood. Larger Bowl? Sometimes. Faithless? Probably. Bravest Face? Always. Overall I like it.

Very well played. S&A actually used to be my soundtrack for long and thoughtful walks. I probably added the occasional skip in there, I'm pretty weird. Digital Dad
I had my son in the car and it was playing and I immediately skipped Bravest Face. He made me play the whole song. I threw him out of the window. Obviously not. ;)
MeanMeanPride
I'm just here to defend Rivendell. It's really a great little tune with great fantasy lyrics (a la early Rush). It's also really fun to learn on guitar.

It's also really fun to learn on guitar. Nothing off the bands first two albums deserves "Worst Ever" status. By Tor might be one of my least favourite songs of this band, but Truth be told it is still better than anything on CA, and Rivendell is very pretty. Whoah...am I defending FBN? *checks pulse*

tomhealey
Haven't read through the thread. Don't have to. Anyone answering anything other than Superconductor is just plain wrong. And worst song in concert, btw? Xanadu/Superconductor. Even the immense superiority of Xanadu cannot save the hopeless mess of Superconductor. Thread locked. Move along.

Super Phil
Ha....Nobody's Hero and Half The World are beautiful songs. I like Superconductor too. There are plenty of Rush songs out there there never really grabbed my attention....so I don't listen to them and don't know their titles. Tai Shan and Dog Years are pretty lame, though. bathory
some of you seem to be choosing based on subject matter instead of how the music sounds. pretend "I think I'm going bald" is called "descriptions of nature trails while contemplating the existence of god...in space" and see if you like it more
