The new Tremonti album is legit full on heavy.

WHOAAAAAH!! The song Catching Fire is bludgeoning, bone crushingly heavy.

I find Tremonti a little one-dimensional as a vocalist, but his band is flipping amazing!

Wolfgang Van Halen is better with Tremonti than he is his dads band.

Juliana theory. Deadbeat Sweetheart I don't think i can hate albums in this genre.

i don't tell people this......but it's my secret side chick genre, lol pure ear candy

Mick

This is without taking into account current favourite bands.

If I had to do a top list of the most important bands of my life, that have moved me the most, they would be:

ABBA

Lacuna Coil

Nightwish

HIM

Within Temptation

Thrice

The Juliana Theory

Jimmy Eat World

Rush

Bruce Springsteen

The Beatles

These bands are the artists that have had the HUGEST impact on my tastes. Yes and Miles Davis deserve mention as well, but I have never been OBSESSED with them.

The genres that have had the biggest impact on me are gothic metal/rock (and deviant bands that crossover such as Nightwish) and emo/post-hardcore.

my list would have some artists in common

Tom Waits

The Beatles

Frank Zappa

Rush

Toto

Queen

HIM(Yes i can put them there for Razorblade Romance alone. I can't even scratch the surface of the feels that album gives me.)

Elvis Costello

Alter Bridge

Yes

That's the short list

Mick

I forgot Toto and Alter Bridge.

Pretty sure you knew they were meant to be there!

So far, the only 2016 album I have enjoyed is also one I happen to think I love:

Tremonti- Dust

It even has a closing song that contains elements of music written around the time for One Day Remains.

Catching Fire literally destroyed my speakers.

This is unlikely to be the album of the year if Lacuna Coil and, indeed, Alter Bridge have anything to do about it.

But top three? Easily in with a shot.

Wow.

I couldn't ever have expected this from a man who played such a big part in Creed. I hate Creed.

But two of my favourite bands ever exist because of Creed.

Tremonti just flipping made me cry with TWO songs.

Dust and Unable To See.

This dude is just...

FEELS

But then I play the rest of the album and its like being in a PG-13 Saw movie.

I LOVE Deadbeat Sweetheart Segue. The beast of the pop punk albums you recommended.

Mick

I have always been torn between Juliana and Jimmy.

Both bands are flawless to me.

If pushed, Juliana, everytime.

Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat was my first Juliana album. Likely their best, but I adore Love and Understand This Is A Dream (and Emotion Is Dead, and Music From Another Room, and 28 B-Sides And Rarities).

I need some Juliana.

Mick, that white cover you have is the one I see the most on the internet, but my edition has this front cover:

I friggin' waited to long with the Juliana Theory

they encompass everything i not so secretly love about pop punk

They are winners.

Mick

You have no idea how much the emo scene hated them.

Not just a little, but a lot. Poor guys, they could never win.

August in Bethany is beautiful.

Mick

Yes it is. Understand This Is A Dream is an album that got me through a terrible relationship. It has a couple of songs I don't rate highly, but overall it is a favourite.

I will post the full discography in a momet. It was short-lived but creatively explosive.

Understand This Is A Dream, 1999

220px-Understand_This_Is_A_Dream.jpg

In my opinion, a triumphant debut. Cheaply recorded, scrappily put together, but bursting with ideas and full of heart. For me, a couple of clunkers, but those aside this would be a 10/10. 8/10

Best songs for me: Duane Joseph, August In Bethany, Constellation

Emotion Is Dead, 2000

Emotion_is_dead.jpg

TJT go pop, punk, classic rock and techno. Backstreet Boys harmonies, meets Pink Floyd meets Weezer. Again, cheaply produced, on a small indie label, this one found them a cult audience, and a few TV spots. 9/10

Best songs for me: Into The Dark, Don't Push Love Away, Is Patience Still Waiting?, You Always say Goodnight

Music From Another Room EP, 2001

220px-Music_from_Another_Room_%28EP%29.jpg

Made up of abandoned songs from previous albums, this is a minor gem. I am not the biggest fan of a few songs, but The Piano Song deserved a spot on an album. Oddly, this is very similar to the next release, with its harder rock edge... 7/10

Best songs for me: Breathing By Wires, Piano Song

Love, 2003

220px-Juliana_Theory_Love.jpg

They found an audience with lighter pop tunes and gentle lyrics. So they sign to a major record label, with a huge budget, and go heavy. Really heavy. Commercial suicide, but an artistic triumph. One of my all time favourite albums. 10/10

Best songs for me: Shell Of A Man, Jewel To Sparkle, White Days, Trance, Everything

Live 10.13.2001, 2003

220px-The_Juliana_Theory_-_Live_10.13.2001.jpg

Decent live album. 6/10

Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat, 2005

220px-Deadbeat_Sweetheartbeat.jpg

Another new sound for the band, their fourth full length once again sounds like a different band. But this time it is perfect. Should have been massive, but they released this on their own label, and went nowhere, breaking up in early 2006. 10/10

Best songs for me: This Is A Lovesong...For The Loveless, Shotgun Serenade, I Love You To Death, Leave Like A Ghost, Her Velvet Voice

A Small Noise, 2006

220px-The_Juliana_Theory_-_A_Small_Noise.jpg

Avoid. This was a cash grab. Just a cheap best-of. 0/10

28 B-Sides And Rarities, 2010

http://jonathangunnell.com/wp-content/uploads/tjtbsides.jpg

Download only. This features all the remaining non-album tracks, two EP's and a few demo's. Most surprising here is the epic The Black Page, a leftover from Love and one of the bands most beautifully written songs. This is patchy, as you would expect. But it also serves as a delightful listen, with some nowhere else to be found material included. 9/10

Best songs for me: The Whistle, Before I Go, The Black Page, Variations On A Theme

SEGUE (and mick if you into beyonce):

LEMONADE??

Its an absolute chaotic mess.

I think she should be proud of it.

I admire her crazy path, and some of these songs will take on another life onstage.

Love the edge and rasp to her vocals now.

I managed to get my hands on it. It's a slimy marketing scheme to get people on Tidal, and it's working, but regardless I think it's actually super good. I found Beyonce hard to enjoy in the past, but this almost feels like the type of alt rock I love with Garbage, but without the guitar riffs and etc. and a lot of sass.

Wonderful vocals. Very dark. I love it because, when she sings, I can't keep myself from projecting myself face first into the lyrics and it's glorious.
