Labrie is a man with a voice that is easy hate, but it turns out learning to admire it is even easier!

Like Geddy, it took a while but I got there!

The worst offending studio album for vocals is Awake. Ouchies. Often.

a lot of people Say he's not that emotional.......but listen to ANY track on Score. he pours himself into those songs.

Actually...I am under the impression that he often goes OTT on the emotional front, the more passion the more grating the delivery. Of course, only until it all clicks into place!

Labrie would have done well in musical theater.

If only he was vocally trained that way, lol

Mick

You know, that raspy edge to his voice has a real appeal after a while. I love it!

Dream Theater are sort of knocking Alter Bridge out of my top five.

He's brought the rasp back full force these days. almost over uses it at times now.

Mick

Well...I think it inevitable that in the next few years his voice might change for the worse. Only Dio and Bruce Dickinson seem to have aged gracefully with their vocals! (Yes I know Dio is gone, but his voice never lost its cool!).

Labrie belongs to that group, as he has a high voice (whether its as great is up for debate, but I like it a lot!).

Listened to SC at work again today. Loved it. Possibly my fav DT album. Really do dig this band. Still love Fates way more. Labrie is ok. His voice fits.

I hope you can empathise with me in future when we disagree on Signals haha!

Wow...SC is your potential favourite. Blow me down!

I always dig the guys who applaud the underdog! I promise to give it a better listen (I don't hate it, it just hasn't blown me away yet).

What makes it stand out for you?

It's not a hopeless mess...it also isn't the reigning king of Rush Albums.

But whatever, Rush aren't really all that important to me as of this moment. Gimme a week it will change!

Hey Mick, I'm just now starting to get into DT and don't want to read through that 300 page thread. What's your album rankings for them?

I saw them back in 2010 when they opened for Maiden and I've listened to their self titled and BC&SL, and both were pretty good.

I'm able to pick out a few good ones from their self titled that I really like.

Enemy Inside, Looking Glass, Enigma Machine, Behind The Veil, and Illumination Theory.

The others are either harder to grow on or will end up as filler.

I will get there! Going backwards. ADTOE is up next after I finish a few more rounds with their self titled.

I've heard Panic Attack a bunch of times and it's a real gem. They even played it live when they opened for Maiden :haz:
