bluefox4000
Today's album is Dramatic Turn of Events. Gonna spend the day absorbing that one after I spent yesterday with the self titled. The self titled is damn fine. Glad you Like that One BC!!!! It appeals to my melodic sense just fine, Mick

Mick Please go for Blood Mountain, it is nuts! i'm on it......this instrumental in Capillarian Crest is INSANE. Mick Blood Mountain is my favourite of their albums. Taking nothing away from the gentler majesty of Crack The Skye. Another 10/10.

Segue Myles
Circle of Cysquatch........what the hell??????? that robotic vocal effect towards the end!!!!!! you ever hear something so good you just laugh? Mick Mastodon, from Remission to Crack The Skye are FLAWLESS. I know the screaming is not for you. But I wouldn't have the intense Leviathan any other way. Mastodon was my first taste of prog, alongside Opeth. I still think they are two of the greatest metal bands of all time, and I always will. But after Crack The Skye, it got a little too smooth for me and they lost that unpredictable edge for me.

bluefox4000
OK........I do hear a lot of DT influence in Matodon.......the guitar in particular But at the same time it is uniquely their own thing. Mick

Mick I don't hear it at all, but maybe! When I hear DT I hear tonnes of other bands so the influences are pretty diverse! Both are outstanding so I will listen out for it next time!

bluefox4000
You know.........i had heard Mastodon floated around this forum for a long time. i should have been faster. Blood Mouuntain is as good a prog Metal as you'll find. Fantastic. Mick

Blood Mouuntain is as good a prog Metal as you'll find. Fantastic. Mick When it comes to prog in general, it is one of the very best of the best. Mastodon deserve all the praise they get. I have lost interest in them, but the early demos and EP's through to Crack The Skye are all worthy of the best album accolade for any band. I find it hard to believe they all came from one! Dream Theater, on the other hand, are brilliant but nothing quite feels unique to my ears. But what I do like is how when I do really blatantly hear their influences, I like their interpretation the best!

bluefox4000
I don't know if they can unseat DT.......Because DT are so ingrained in my soul.....but Mastodon would make a nice Companion. Mick
