2014-15 NHL Season thread

They are coming out well tonight, they look much faster than they have been recently. Will see if they can keep it up for 60 mins. Kane being hurt is scary, hope it is minor.

Blackhawks beat writer tweets that a source says the Kane injury is 'not good. at all.'

Between that and the Seguin injury, now's as a good a time as ever to move the Panthers. :P

Yeah, this just sucks. Best case he might be back for the playoffs ... which they should still make

Teravainen called back up, but it is really up to guys like Sharp (especially) , Saad, and Hossa to pick up the pace.

One bright spot is teams can be over the cap in the playoffs and Kane is off the cap now that he is on IR, so they can take on a fair amount of salary before the trade deadline. If this was going to happen, better now than a week from now so they can pick up a guy on the last year of a contract.

Blackhawks forward Kane out 12 weeks after surgery

That's well into the third round of the playoffs. That is not good.

Hopefully they can cut it down a bit from 12 weeks because that's way too long for us to survive in the playoffs. Vermette, Zidlicky or Michalek would be my top choices of pick-ups by the trade deadline. Too bad there's no real stud out there this season ready to be moved.

Good win last night, hope they can carry it forward tonight. One of their better efforts in a while. I really like Shaw better at wing than center, it fits his game better

HEY GUYS

CLARKSON GOT TRADED

For a LTIR cap space mule! YES!!!!

It's actually not the worst move in the world.

It's a wonderful move, at least from Toronto's perspective. Addition by subtraction.

David Clarkson was more or less the definition of a "negative asset", contributing next to nothing on the ice (and being a drain by some measures) while carrying a brutal cap hit. Getting rid of arguably the worst contract in the NHL without retaining any salary is a better outcome than anyone could've hoped for. The only impact on the Leafs is in real dollars, and MLSE is clearly too rich to care about a few burned millions (or else they would've canned Nonis a long time ago). This might actually be the best thing to happen to the Leafs since they went up 4-1 on the Bruins.

If Horton is finished as a player (and it sure sounds like it) hopefully his back issues clear up enough to let him live a comfortable life. The reports out of Columbus didn't sound good at all.

To quote a comment I saw on a hockey blog today, "Nathan Horton, without playing one game, will go down as one of the most beloved Leafs ever just because he is not David Clarkson."
