GeddysMullet
Remember Ice House? :ebert:Ice House were huge in Germany at the time. Hey Little Girl and Street Cafe were big hits here. I loved Icehouse. This is the one. Funny how the mind blocks things out. If any song for the year 1981 could have defined me, it was this one. I don't care how long it takes my lousy dial-up to load this song. I'm going to listen to it no matter what.

I used to listen to them alot because my wife was (is) a big fan also. I saw them with her 3 times in the early 80's. She typically didn't really like my other tastes (UFO, JP etc) and go with me to those shows. To quote and possibly paraphrase.... " at this point you gotta give it up for Journey or you're just being an old dickhead"..... :)

circumstantial tree
Journey can write some good songs, no doubt about. They aren't as "up there" with Neil's but still can be damn good. For anybody who is interested these are the albums I'd recommend. Don't know too much about the era prior to Steve Perry but these are the Steve Perry era albums worth owning or at least "the big ones": Infinity - 1978Evolution - 1979Departure - 1980Dream after Dream - 1980Escape - 1981Frontiers - 1983
Lorraine
They are no Rush, that's for sure, but for that music era, they were damn good. A lot of the eighties music I like a lot. It was a refreshing change.

All I knew was Don't Stop Believing, and truth be told, I never expected the band who wrote that song to rock so damn hard! I want to go back in time and live through those golden years of classic rock! I am trying so hard to catch up, if it wasn't for you guys my introduction to so many awesome bands would still be a work in progress! Rushman14
Journey just gained some street cred! JOURNEY IS A MAGNET FOR UNDERAGE DRINKERS. http://ll-media.tmz.com/2014/05/15/0515-journey-recent-getty-4.jpg SORRY UNDERAGE KIDS, your days of getting hammered at Journey concerts are OVER!!!!!! At least in Chula Vista, CA ... where cops say the local PD is DOUBLING its patrol out of fear underage drinking will run rampant when the band takes the stage. For the record, no ... it's not still 1983. But seriously, the Chula Vista PD just issued the following release to the media: "CVPD will be enforcing ZERO TOLERANCE for underage drinking and public intoxication at the Journey concert tonight at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. We will be doubling our enforcement efforts to combat underage drinking and public intoxication both during the concert and the pre-concert tailgating activities. Underage drinkers will be cited and removed from the venue without a refund for their ticket. Officers will also be on the look out for excessive drinking that is disruptive and/or a safety concern. Intoxicated patrons will be denied access to the event and NO refunds will be given." All this ... and Steve Perry isn't even with the band anymore ... BUT COULD YOU IMAGINE IF HE WAS!?!?!?!!?! I moved very far from home and left my albums behind. I just stopped listening primarily because I had nothing to listen to. I got married, my life took another direction, and the memories (good and bad) attached to the music was something I didn't want to deal with until I was ready. It took a while. :)

I know he eventually left after "Infinity" to join Jefferson Starship (another fave of mine at the time). And then Steve Smith came aboard for "Evolution", if I'm correct.
