Best album pairs

The Radiohead thread got me thinking about this. Sometimes albums seem to belong together, compliment one another, or work great side by side. Album buddies, if you will. Here's some that come immediately to my mind:

The Bends and OK Computer (by Radiohead)

A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres (of course)

Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures (of course)

Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy (hard to explain, but every other Zeppelin album seems to stand on its own, but these two have always seemed a pair to me)

Michigan and Illinois (by Sufjan Stevens)

Rubber Soul and Revolver

Something Else by the Kinks and The Kinks are the Village Green Society (like Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures, in that the earlier album was a break-out album in its own right, yet sets the table for the following album of even greater renown)

Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman (Ozzy)

Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules (Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio)

Metallica and Load (Metallica)

Piece of Mind and Powerslave (Maiden)

Holy Diver and The Last in Line (Dio)

Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity (The Police)

Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith (Judas Priest)

Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour (The Beatles)

I'll think of some more I'm sure.

I would post Wire albums, but I can't seperate the first three albums. It's an unbreakable trilogy.

Off the top of my head:

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules

The Replacements - Tim and Pleased to Meet Me

Yes - Fragile and Close to the Edge

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour

John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King and In the Wake of Poseidon

I always thought the Roth-era Van Halen albums paired off quite nicely:

Van Halen - Van Halen and Van Halen II

Van Halen - Women and Children First and Fair Warning

Van Halen - Diver Down and 1984

Powerage and Highway to Hell

I picked these two because they are pretty similar in style and sound. Let There Be Rock is better than both (or any) IMO but is more raw than these two also. Obvious that Back In Black is different too (for sad reasons)...

Actually Narp, now that you mention it, Back in Black and For Those About To Rock.

Metallica - Master of Puppets & Ride the Lightning. Those two are so similar I can never remember which songs are from which.

Rush - A Farewell to Kings & Hemispheres. I know someone already mentioned it but they're worth mentioning again.

Powerage and Let There Be Rock have ALWAYS been the perfect pair to me :)

Heaven Tonight and Dream Police by Cheap Trick

Those 2 immediately came to mind. To me, for some reason, they go hand in hand.

Of course, as ReRushed already pointed out...the top of the list absolutely, positively has to be...

Queen - A Night at the Opera & A Day at the Races
