I agree with the Chris Squire omission being a bit odd. I also didn't realize that John Lennon was known for his bass playing?

Yeah, for everyone wondering why certain bassists are not on the list, this website factors popularity in for all their lists, so that any user could identify most of the entries if they have any interest in the subject. Hence some of the glaring omissions and strange picks. This site also did a top ten drummer's list (Neil Placed 3rd), and top ten rock instrumentals (La Villa Strangiato placed 1st, thought they mentioned that YYZ could have had number one too, but a limit of one song per band was placed)

Cool that Geddy is #1, but after seeing that Dave Grohl is #5 on the drummers list, it automatically makes the list for me irrelevant. It's cool that Grohl plays with energy, but being a drummer of 30 years, I will say that anything Grohl plays is not that complicated or technical and not so cool that it trumps other drummers. There are scores of drummers that should be listed before Grohl. Even Bohnam at #2 is a stretch. There are quite a few groove drummers that I think are much better. These lists aren't bad, but I think they were made by non-musicians. More of a poularity type of list. When it comes to funky style, Mark King of Level 42 can play cirlces around a guy like Flea although I do like Flea's playing quite a bit. Edited by presto123

I saw both lists and a lot of Rush fans left angry comments about Neil not being at #1. I think I felt it necessary to remind some of them that the two guys who placed above him are not exactly around to see how they ranked. So, technically, Neil IS the best in terms of who still walks this earth. Or motorcycles across it, as the case may be.

I wonder how old the person was that made the list. A lot of 60s/70s players on that list.

I agree. Really limited. Can't believe I'm not on it

I am surprised as well. I think your showmanship was a bit much them. Flea is on the list though ? :)

Showmanship? It's called "in the zone" dude. I gotta move when I play! Helped keep me in time.

Posers have showmanship. We could never be confused with that group.

I stand corrected. Being the non-musician that I am, I am not familiar with the lingo..... :codger:

Learning is a life long process.

For me, movement was my metronome. BTW, hard to do with three other guys on stage. Can't tell you how many times I've nailed bandmates with my bass.

My brother is or was a musician and he used to tell me the same thing about Angus Young. The metronome thing I mean....

someone who never makes any of these lists and should is John McVie from Fleetwood Mac. The grooves that he came up with are the core to most of Fleetwood Mac's hits.

Like most of these lists, guys with chops always win out, unfortunately.
