LedRush
I know people will disagree with my groupings. This is merely how I think of the albums and I expect differing opinions. I can see CoS being grouped with the early albums as their level of "prog" on that album was more simple than in their other "prog" albums. Also, Signals could be included in the "classic" section. And from Presto on it's harder to "classify" the albums - Presto and RTB are very different than CP and T4E, but I thought they were similar enough to be grouped together. LedRush
I could go different ways on this on different days, but with the "classic" and "early" eras each having only two albums, I have to go with "prog".

LedRush
QUOTE (metaldad @ Jul 24 2012, 03:03 PM) AFTK - Signals If I weren't trying to break up the albums by style, I probably would have done something similar, though CoS-MP.

Cyclonus X-1
Gotta go with "classic." Two of my four favorite Rush albums. Toss Signals in with them and you've got my favorite stretch.
losingit2k
Well actually it was between AFTK-MP! But I went with the Classic Era!
Shreddy Lee
If I were ranking them this way: 1. Prog 2. Classic 3. Late 4. Early 5. Back to Guitar 999. Synth
goose
PeW and MP are tops for me, along with the debut and Caress. Presto, CP and VT stand out in later RUSH. Kimono-RUSH and synth-RUSH are the my two least favorite periods. T4E is an outlier.

NYM86
Tough decision, but I went with the synth period. More than anything, I look back on it as their absolute creative peak...lyrically, musically, thematically. It's also hard to argue with the crystal clarity of Geddy's voice during this period, something that is sorely missed now. ColdFireYYZ
My 2 favorite albums are Signals and Permanent Waves. I think from your groupings I'm going to go with Classic, though I consider my favorite period to be AFTK-GUP.
greyfriar
Gone with classic (add Hemispheres).
apetersvt
Probably the easiest decision in a poll that I have made on this forum. My top 4 albums are: Caress Of Steel Hemispheres A Farewell To Kings 2112 Prog option by a light year. Classic takes Silver. Early gets the Bronze. LedRush
QUOTE (greyfriar @ Jul 26 2012, 05:23 AM) Gone with classic (add Hemispheres). Hemispheres is the proggiest of the prog records. It seems an odd choice to throw in with "classic". Signals, maybe, but not Hemispheres.
