Finding IT
QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 4 2012, 05:54 AM) Both safe rock albums, not nearly adventurous enough. So when is their next album out? If you think the themes in S&A are safe, you need to reread the lyrics.
Presto-digitation
QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 4 2012, 02:20 PM) QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jul 4 2012, 02:17 PM) Differences to me are that CA is more straight forward, jam oriented, uptempo. S&A is more dense, lush, and acoustically and vocally layered....more folksy rock than prog. Both are fine for what they are, but simply comparing which one I'd reach for first...it'd be Clockwork Angels. I love S&A in its own right, but CA is simply BETTER to me. It was a more ambitious and well executed project. No small praise either, as I love S&A and have been an ardent defender in light of some of the about-faces that have gone on here. But CA is really a strong record. I'm not at all going to back off what I thought of S&A, but I wasn't sure I thought they could make an album I liked this much more than S&A at this point. The fact that they did means it really exceeded my expectations and that they continue to surprise me.
Presto-digitation
QUOTE (SUBDIVISIONS @ Jul 4 2012, 04:09 PM) Yes SA its more like: "lets make a record" CA its more like: "Guys lets make an exciting project" Yeah, I think that's a very good and concise summation. SUBDIVISIONS
Now I wonder why they made such a different record? Than the previous one They are the same 3 guys Nick was the producer too What they did not have during SA that they find later on CA? Because CA its amazing The 3 almost 60 year old raccoons are ROASTING! What is their source of inspiration? How or why they were able to take this new Breathe? Were they at the edge of dying at some plane landing? Did they finally listen to Ray Daniels? Are they on drugs again? A mistress? Have they found the secret river Alph? Were they into some kind of bet vs their kids? How or why they took such a turn as a lightning rocket to the sky? I dont know, what you think? theredtamasrule
QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 4 2012, 05:54 AM) Both safe rock albums, not nearly adventurous enough. So when is their next album out? What about the title track is "safe rock"? Or Carnies? Or even The garden? These are not "safe rock" songs. Safe rock would be 3 minute songs following preset formulas designed for radio and mass appeal...like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I know Bon Jovi sir. And CA is no Bon Jovi. MainMonkeyBusiness
I like that CA has a definite theme..and a pretty gritty, awesome one at that. Odd thing is that if you look at the art for Workin' Them Angels, you get some serious CA vibes. But S&A has some super songs on it. I can't decide. I bought S&A and CA is in the mail (although I've already played through all the songs on Youtube about 15 times). I'll have to listen through them all when I get CA in. It is kind of a tradition of mine...Rush---->Clockwork Angels

CA is esp not safe rock....it's no Hemispheres, but def NOT safe and standard rock as a whole album. It's his pathetic attempt to minimize this album through labeling the whole thing as safe rock, blah blah. Very predictable post from Mr Ego. Gedneil Alpeart
I just listenend to all of SA yesterday and it didnt go down too well after having been in CA land for so many weeks. SA just sounded so dull and plodding by comparison, and the folk rock element in SA stood out a lot more. SA has some good songs, no doubt, but does not at all seem inspired like CA. SUBDIVISIONS
Dont know, but some songs in S&A like larger bowl and armor & sword sound like my fav headache part 2, also we hold on Its more Geddy collaborated, He was the one pushing and inspired I guess. Tombstone Mountain
QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 7 2012, 12:40 PM) SA has some good songs, no doubt, but does not at all seem inspired like CA. I honestly can't even think about playing S & A since this came out. Your right, the inspiration of CA is remarkable. Actually, if we are looking at albums in terms of inspirational qualities, MP is the next in line.
CygnusX-1Bk2
When songs from CA come on I have to turn them down. When songs from S&A come on I want to turn them up. There is more emotion. intensity, subtlety and nuance in Amour and Sword, Faithless and The Way The Wind Blows than all of CA. Period.
