Funny..... Care to define why it isn't a masterpiece? So far none of you negative nancys haven't done that. I am astounded that anyone would even consider using the word "masterpiece" with this album. It is an incremental improvement over the last two albums. Because: You just don't get it. Man, this album really is a masterpiece. Could be the best Rush ever put out...maybe Masterpiece i tell you---Masterpiece. mmm_donuts
QUOTE (A rocket that ignites itself @ Jun 30 2012, 05:36 PM) Really really good album...quite possibly great with some time for it to breathe. Such a great time to be a fan of a band still creating killer material at this point of their career. An interesting story and concept...including some songs that could be all-time classics. That said, the term "masterpiece" seems like a quite a stretch though. yep agree
Mr. Not
I don't see it as a masterpiece, I don't even find many of the songs worth listening to. It's an outstanding album when you consider their age, though.

Tombstone Mountain
This is what the Seattle Intelligencer had say about the status of Clockwork Angels: If it's not the best album of the year, I really want to hear the other contenders for the throne. Further, I wonder if Clockwork Angels will ultimately be measured against other concept albums from the '60s to the present and be found one of a very august company

pfrushfan0122
The album has poor production quality, but the first time I heard it was on my speaker system in my room at full blast. It didn't sound too bad like others were saying, and then I listened to it on my headphones and figured out why so many were complaining. It definitely sounds better in an open area in my opinion, and I think it makes some of the issues disappear. Not all of them though... I absolutely LOVE this album regardless, and plus its one of their best albums in years... Edited August 24, 2012 by pfrushfan0122

This album would sound good coming out of the arse end of an elephant. The production is outstanding...Nick did a fantastic job by creating the best album since PeWaves...no album has been this ambitious and musically satisfying... I do buy the headphone statement though...nicely put
clearingsky
I have labeled CA as a "masterpiece" as well. I believe it is, at least for me and my listening pleasure. The "rush fanboi" critique is lame, tired, and uninspired. Time to lose that, it's a bad joke.

ThinkingBig
QUOTE (canadianice @ Jun 30 2012, 01:45 AM) Clockwork Angels is truly a masterpiece, a once in a lifetime classic, I could mention a few of these that have graced our ears, over the years. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zepp. etc. I have alwats had a soft spot for Rush, I guess i can put that down to being a proud Canadian, living within a short distanceof the boys. From day 1, Rush caught me in there wonderful web of music. Over the years i have faithfully followed. attende there concerts, and really enjoyed there music. I guess being a true Canuck fan, i am naturally biased.I am the same age as Alex, Ged and neil, and i just want to express my heartfelt thanks, for all the beautiful music, you have given us throug the years. And to top it off with such a classic album, well words of thanks, would not suffice. Alex, Geddy, and Neil , Heartfelt thanks for making my life a lot brighter, with all your wonderful music. peace and love Great post, don't let the asswipe haters get you down. The Owl
Clockwork Angels I would classify as a "Top Notch" album and one of their best, easily the best of their latter career.....(horrible mixing issues aside) But I reserve the term "Masterpiece" for records like "Sgt. Pepper", "Selling England by The Pound" "Wish You Were Here", "Heaven and Hell" all the records from "2112"-"Moving Pictures" "Close to the Edge"...etc. And as much as I like the new album, I just cant put Clockwork Angels in that same echelon.
