Dscrapre
I've been listening to a lot of Rush lately, probably too much. It's a blasphemy to say it I know, but, I'm starting to feel like I've been taking them for granted. So, in order for me to more fully appreciate the genius of Rush, and the wider world of music in general, I'm going to take a week off from Rush. Either next week or the one after, I'm going to go for 7 days without listening to any Rush. So, this is where I need your help. I've been trying to expand my musical palate lately, and I'd really appreciate any suggestions. My favorite Rush album is Permanent Waves, and I view the period from AFTK-Signals to be musical perfection. Clockwork Angels is ranking pretty high up there too. Other favorites of mine include Relayer (Yes) and Houses of the Holy (Led Zep). Lately I've been listening to a fair bit of Primus, Radiohead, and Mastodon. I'm trying to make things somewhat varied and diverse, although I tend to generally prefer Progressive or Experimental music, Hard Rock, and straight-up Classic Rock. I'm especially looking for classic and modern prog acts. I appreciate any suggestions you guys may have for me. Thank you!

English Muffin
If your into experimental and progressive music, check out King Crimson and Yes - I would suggest 'In the court of the crimson king' and 'The yes album'
D3strukt
QUOTE (English Muffin @ Jun 19 2012, 03:49 AM) If your into experimental and progressive music, check out King Crimson and Yes - I would suggest 'In the court of the crimson king' and 'The yes album' I can agree with this sentiment. Don't forget "Poseidon" as well. Then you can follow Greg Lake to Emmerson, Lake, and Palmer, and pick up "Tarkus", an excellent album.

Garden Dancer
I'd say anything from Steve Vai. Flex-Able for it's sheer peculiarity and the sound of Epicness as it's just emerging... Passion And Warfare coz it's a freakin' classic Fire Garden It 's just too much for words... The Ultra Zone Another one where words simply fail me. Alien Love Secrets Just... seriously. If none of the others, you gotta give this one a few thousand listens...
