I Love It When Neil Clicks His Sticks On The Title

The title track on this new record is EPIC!!!!

It's taken me many spins but I have finally fallen in love with this song.

As a drummer I just love when Neil clicks his sticks on the track!!!

This album is like a chameleon of all of their albums combined into one!!!!

"Clockwork Angels" contains the elements from every Rush era!!

From "Caress Of Steel" to "Vapor Trails" for sure!!!

When I listen to Neil's drumming throughout this new record I hear a lot of "One Little Victory."

He has the double pedal thumping like the heart of a teenaged boy getting his first kiss under a warm summer moon.

Neil is the shite! The greatest drummer of all time! Well since Buddy Rich!!

I still find it unfitting. It's the one of my very few and trivial problems with the song.

I know!! It's weird!!! It makes no sense!!! It's unique and different!!

Perhaps why I love it so much!!

"The Wreckers" is blasting right now!! I can't believe you hate this song but I respect your opinion!!

I love this Forum!!!

I love it! The first time I heard it I thought that it was the sound of a clock ticking. Seems like he was trying to mimic that effect.

Interesting!! I never thought of the clicking of the sticks would be the ticking of a clock!

Wow that sentence rhymed! Neil would be proud!! LOL!

It's a double-entrende. Ticking clock, and a count in.

Dude! You know your shit!

I've been playing drums for 28 years and I don't know what a double-entrende is!

Awesome!!!!

I'm a grip it and rip it drummer. I play by the ear. Don't read at all.

No wonder I play alone in my garage and at my office.

I need to find a band!!!

I love it!

It's like Neil is telling the Alex and Geddy "get ready boys. Shit's about to get real...".

The drumming for the verses is pretty insane, Neil's really bringing his "A" game to this record!

I think the stick clicks are great, twofold. To me they represent the ticking of the clockworks, and also signal to the band 'LET'S GO'. One expert recently called it cheezy, but I don't see that. I love it. 1022.gif trink38.gif 2.gif

edited to add, I didn't read responses before posting.. I see many people agree!

I was wondering if when they do it live he'll actually click his sticks or if he'll hit an electronic drum that has the sound sampled in (not sure if the drum mics would pick up the sound of the sticks).

If you're close enough you can hear 'em naked wink.gif

He'll click the sticks. The mics will pick it up.

That is one fast clock ticking. I believe it is only meant for time keeping.

I love it too! Kind of reminds me when Bonzo did it on Black Dog back in 1971! common001.gif

That is some messed up timing on Black Dog.

I haven't heard this though. Did he do it live or something?

As discussed the other thread on the stick hitting countdown thing, I too think it's a cool little touch. I wondered, however, if it is Neil doing it or if in fact it is Nick we're hearing, clicking his "batons" together as part of his conducting of Neil's drum parts.

Either way, I like it!
