GeddyRulz
QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 18 2012, 07:57 AM) It is one of my favorites on the release. Something is catchy about it. In my top four. It's the catchy choruses to some of these tracks! In this case, "All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary..." Lost In Xanadu
QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 18 2012, 07:57 AM) It is one of my favorites on the release. Something is catchy about it. I like the song. GernTheFish
QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 18 2012, 07:58 AM)QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jun 18 2012, 08:47 AM) The song is about wrecking a ship on the shore where pirates are waitin' for ya...the guitar evokes almost a sprightly feeling at beginning...doesn't coincide with seriousness of subject matter. Chorus sounds hopeless. Actually, I agree with this. I love the lyrics and the music is really cool and unique (for Rush especially). I just don't think the music and the lyrics go TOGETHER that well. The music seems to upbeat, and the words are dark and cynical. Also, while I'm being so negative and pissy, the song's a little on the repetitive side. I've gotten a bit tired of the chorus.

Yes, the INTRO to the song is pretty upbeat, but it doesn't last long. I don't get that vibe from the rest of the song to be honest. The whole bridge section especially, is so dark and cinematic...I actually find it has the vibe of waves crashing and you can hear desperation in Ged's voice. I think the chorus is not so much upbeat, but more a mix of sadness and realism. I mean, he's basically saying "don't get too excited about great things, because they aren't always as good as they seem. It's basically the vibe of 'this is the way it is, that's life...come to understand it' That's what I gather from the song anyways. I love this song. I think the chorus is not so much upbeat, but more a mix of sadness and realism. That's why the song is somewhat weak...why have an opening that evokes images of Simple Jack chasing butterflies only to resolve to pirates and wrecking a ship--this is an example of an imperfect marriage of riffs and flow of a song...the music is supposed to convey the urgency of the lyrics. Now, having said that, I like the song. it's not my favorite. Love the chorus though!

The opening riff (the so called happy jolly riff) is our hero boarding the ship at the port after just nearly losing his life in the Seven Cities of Gold...then we get into the amazing verse music where he is at sea...and then they get caught in the hurricane and then see the ghostly light...and think everything is going to be ok and again we get the happy jolly intro riff...then back to the verse and the realization they are getting hoodwinked by the pirates...then the awesome bridge...and back to the unreal chorus......you never hear the intro riff again after the start of the second verse. BRILLIANT SONG.

"My Humps" by The Black Eyed Peas is a bad song. "Wreckers" is a well-crafted and melodic song that you just happen to not like. Which is fine, of course. But it's not a bad song.
