If there was a sequel to Feedback

If Rush released another cover album, which songs could you hear them covering?

I can hear them doing "Good Times, Bad Times" from Led Zeppelin. Good solo points for all three and the jams sound a lot like old Rush. It's easy to hear why people mistook early Rush for Zeppelin.

They should not cover any Zep songs. The time to do that is was over. Those young Plant vocals are way out of Geddy's current vocal range and it would lead to unfair comparisons. THere are so many great old songs that had vocals that Geddy could nail.

The best songs would be ones that could really be kicked up a sonic notch by Rush with out compromising the vocal quality.

For example:

1. Blind Faith "Cant Find My Way Home"

2. Joe Walsh "Walk Away"

3. Canned Heat "On the Road Again"

4. Wild Cherry "Play that Funky Music, White Boy" laugh.gif

None.
Simply because I hope they never do another 'Feedback' type record.

Agreed.

I enjoyed the album, but I prefer the originals of every song they covered. Doing a great cover song is hard - the only way it can really work is if you change it up fairly dramatically from the original and/or make it an even better song. Rush didn't do either of those, but that's no fault of theirs, it's just a really difficult thing to pull off.

Feedback was decent, but they're really way too talented a band to be wasting a moment doing covers.

If you're against the idea of a Rush cover album, why bother posting?

Because it's a discussion forum. People don't always stick strictly within the guidelines set up by the OP because all different types of people with different views post here - it'd be boring if it were otherwise IMHO....

I would enjoy seeing them cover "Eight Miles High" by the Byrds.

And I really enjoyed their one plus minute "cover" of Paint It Black they did at Sarsfest (probably not the right term tongue.gif), and feel they could do a great job with that.

Does anyone know how long they spent recording Feedback? I doubt it took them too much time, and if they found it rejuvenating, it could extend their career rather than wasting the time they do have left. (They DO sound rejuvenated these days without doing this, however.)

Ultimately, while I love getting new music from them (and I'm incredibly eager to hear CA), they should do exactly what they want...they've given us so much to date that to demand or even expect more is, IMHO, selfish.

I have a few songs I'd like to hear and see:

Carouselambra (Led Zepp)

The Logical Song (Supertramp)

Don't Look Back or Hitch a Ride (Boston)

Blinded by the Light (Manfred Mann's Earth Band version)

Punk & the Godfather (The Who)

David Bowie (Ashes to Ashes)

Shock the Monkey (Peter Gabriel)

Well, they basically covered a Zep song, in a way by doing Heart Full of Soul. Yardbirds were always considered a "pre-Zep" band because of Page...Anywho, it'd be awesome to see a Zep song like Kashmir.

Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

Musical Box or Lamb Lies Down - Genesis (odd choice...)

Point of Know Return - Kansas

Time - Pink Floyd

...Interesting enough, maybe cover songs of bands that THEY actually influenced?

Tonight, Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins

One - Metallica (kind of pushing it there)

Tribute - Tanacious D

I would like them to actually cover Prog songs.

Of course it should be songs that they could actually reproduce in their style.

Led Zepplin:..........The Song Remains the Same

Genesis................. Dance on the Volcano

Moody Blues......... The Voice

CSN&Y.................. Wooden Ships

Black Sabbath...... Paranoid

Yngvie Malmsteen. Little Savage

King Crimson........ Starless

UK......................... In the Dead of Night

Asia....................... Wildest Dreams

Zebra................... Take Your Fingers From my Hair

Deep Purple.......... The Battle Rages On

YES....................... Tempus Fugit

Kansas.................. The Wall

I know that tour would be pretty interesting!
