workingcinderellaman
No one has mentioned this movie: http://thisdistractedglobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/Dreamscape%20poster%201.jpg One of Dennis Quaid's early movies, it had a pretty cool concept as well that was reincarnated in Inception. The special effects were lacking, but it was 1984.
workingcinderellaman
Here's another one that didn't get much recognition. http://www.moviegoods.com/Assets/product_images/1020/209184.1020.A.jpg Similar to the Matrix, I liked it better and it came out about the same time. While it's a very enjoyable movie, it's just a tad too cheesy for me to list as one of my VERY favorites. Shoot, I've seen Looker several times too since the 80's, but I wouldn't list that either for the same reason. Brainstorm I loved a lot more - that one was very deep with a lot less cheese. Rushian King
QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 25 2012, 12:48 AM) I must admit a serious reluctance on my part to watch any movie pre-late 60's. I've tried, but I just find them so dated that I have a hard time relating to them. Then again, I've read plenty of pre-late 60's sci-fi books that I've loved, so maybe I'd be able to enjoy some of those movies without being too caught up in goofy dialogue and archaic attitudes. And yet among your 'top of the heap' you pick Logan's Run and Zardoz-- arguably 2 of the most dated sci-fi movies EVER made. (I like them both BTW) Do you find most pre-late 60s movies of any genre have goofy dialogue and archaic attitudes or just sci-fi? Would a movie set in Medieval times have archaic attitudes and be unwatchable regardless of when it's made or just if it was made over 40 years ago? Would a movie set in Medieval times have archaic attitudes and be unwatchable regardless of when it's made or just if it was made over 40 years ago? That really applies to all genres for me, we just happened to be talking sci-fi in this thread. Anything earlier than the late 60's and it just seems too dated to me in the way I described. There is the occasional exception, but almost always when I've tried to watch classic older movies, I either don't like them or give up before they're done. Period piece movies do NOT fit in with this In fact, some of my very favorite movies are period piece movies. You mention medieval era movies. One of my fave movies ever is Excalibur. And then there's this great movie called The Navigator that takes place mostly in medieval times. There are others I've enjoyed a lot. Other period piece movies I love include Chariots of Fire, The Last Temptation of Christ, Brother Sun Sister Moon, Gandhi, Dead Poet's Society, and I love Jane Austin movies. There are tons of others. I know what you're saying about Logan's Run and Zardoz - they ARE dated, but I can still relate.

I saw it when it came out in 1984. I took this girl who I knew I didn't have to impress and we had a great time. So I like it probably because of that expirience. The reggae aliens are sort of funny. Not only is it classic B+ movie....it was one of the first dates I took my first wife on and she STILL married me. She didn't understand it, I sorta did, but hell it's hilarious! and from JERSEY! Does it get any better than that? (OK and if I could ask my first wife I would, but I already have two other fans of Peter Weller's.....um (uncomfortable pause)...lips. My Mother in Law and my current wife think he's got a (oh god I guess since I started it I gotta say it and since she's right here) sexy mouth. Their fave PW movie is? Robocop. One guess why...or is it two? )
