It looks like a fishing spear. Very simple, but effective.
  2. 5. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Mar 29 2012, 05:57 PM) QUOTE (Archangel717 @ Mar 29 2012, 06:46 PM) I sense a disaster coming. I loved Anchorman, but I don't see the sequal being good. Maybe not. They weren't rushed into making a sequel & may have spent a bit of time writing a solid script. I hope you're right. Anchorman is one of my all time favorite comedies. I'm very skeptical, based on sequals to other movies like this one. Remember Without a Paddle 2?

This coming from the person who just posted Death Cab For Cutie and Bowling For Soup in The Underrated thread Hold on....I need a minute to catch my breath... OK, i'm better now Is there something wrong with posting those bands? Where I live, I can name maybe four people, other than me, who know who DCFC and BFS are. Whereas, I can name at least 20 people who essentially worship sabbath. No arguing Sabbath is influential, but they are by no means the godlike band people treat them as. Also, Ozzy bugs the hell out of me. No, there's nothing wrong with posting bands who have gold and platinum records in the underrated thread which completely defeats the reason for that thread. It's there to draw attention to bands that haven't had mainstream success. As for the "who created metal" thing, it doesn't exist without Sabbath. They are the originators of the heavy sound and the dark image associated with it. Priest and a few years later, Maiden were the next evolution of the sound as Priest were the ones to add the metallic sound to the heavy one Sabbath created. Priest could not have created what would become the standard metal sound without Sabbath coming before them and Rob Halford will be the first to tell you that. I'm just going to step in here and make a quick point. So far, in the argument against Archangel, I have only seen statements that support the major influence of Sabbath. But since when does influence = general awesomeness for everyone? The thing that always happens in these threads is that someone posts a 'classic' and influential band. Then everyone blasts them for insulting the mighty whatever because 'without them we wouldn't have X" or something to that effect. A band is overrated when they are famous, but their music isn't that good. Overrated has nothing to do with influence, ability, etc. Just my take. That's my take on overrated as well. I think they get too much credit then they deserve (nowadays at least) Sure, they were ahead of their time in the 70's.... But now, they're just another band. When I said they were overrated, I meant it as a "their stuff isn't worthy of worship" I don't ever remember saying they weren't influential.
  9. QUOTE (invisible airwave @ Mar 28 2012, 03:37 PM) QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Mar 27 2012, 07:25 AM) Dave Matthews Band - seriously, someone explain their appeal to me Nirvana - Get too much credit for ushering the new musical sound in the early 90s. People seem to forget that Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains were right there with them making a huge impact on the modern hard rock scene. And oh yeah, all three of those bands material crushes Nirvana's stuff. I'm know there's more but those two have topped my list for many years now. I'd add Smashing Pumpkins along with those "better than Nirvana" bands. Nevermind is just decent no more or less. In Utero is way better for it's raw sound. Besides, The Pixies did what Nirvana did before and were better at it. I'd say all those grunge bands are overrated. Yeah, I enjoy Pearl Jam, and Nirvana from time to time, but it get's old fast. All those 90's grunge bands sound the same to me.
  10. QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Mar 28 2012, 01:13 PM) My wife loves this show. I don't mind it, but I wouldn't watch it if she wasn't a fan. There was a part in one episode you of all people would appreciate. The episode was about baggage, and at the end of the episode... Everyone is carrying a suitcase with the names of their baggage. There's dozens of things like "sleeps around" "alcoholic", but one guy in the center is carrying a bag that says "Cubs fan" I thought of you when I saw that
  11. QUOTE (Mara @ Mar 28 2012, 02:59 PM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Mar 28 2012, 10:19 AM) QUOTE (CMWriter @ Mar 28 2012, 07:55 AM) Well, I've heard a few things about this series. 1. It's the greatest thing since sliced bread. 2. The first book is great. The next two give the reader the impression that Collins never intended to make this a trilogy. 3. The MC is just Bella Swan with pigtails. 1. I've also heard that it's a derivative piece of junk. I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle, which seems to be the more general consensus. 2. Entirely possible, but it's not like she was a stranger to writing serialized fiction. Her first five novels were one big series. 3. I've never heard that, in fact, all the press and all the buzz about the movie is that Katniss Everdeen, the main character, is the anti-Bella. Strong, confident, grounded, all the things that Bella is not. Katniss is no Bella. She's tough, and there's far more to her than, "OMG, I will DIE without a boyfriend!" She's actually the opposite. She doesn't want to get married, she doesn't want kids, she just wants to protect her family. Way better then the whiny emo chick who has a mystical creature fetish.
  12. QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Mar 15 2012, 08:49 PM) QUOTE (furie @ Mar 15 2012, 08:46 PM) i enjoy the show, but i hate ted. Same...to use the "Friends" analogy Ted would be the equivalent of Ross. Barney, Marshal, and Lily are the charactors that make the show awesome.

  14. I've noticed that a lot of modern bands do covers of classic songs. Some are really good, but others suck. Which cover of a song is your favorite, and from what band? Paint it Black - Versaemerge Master of Puppets - Van Canto Fantasy - Steel panther Take On Me - Reel Big Fish

  17. QUOTE (Rick N. Backer @ Mar 28 2012, 11:32 AM) QUOTE (Archangel717 @ Mar 28 2012, 10:47 AM)Black Sabbath Definately not as good as everyone makes them out to be. I actually think a case can be made they're somewhat underrated. Outside of Paranoid, Iron Man, and War Pigs, all from the album Paranoid, I suspect most people can't name anything by them, and can't name any other band member besides Ozzy. Their first 10 albums have some of the best music ever recorded, and, particularly during the Ozzy era, they were so much more than a "metal" band. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of their music. But Paranoid was the only album I could listen to all the way through. I guess when you've been hearing people tell you how incredible they are since sophomore year of high school, they get kind of overrated in your mind. I actually kinda liked the stuff they came out with after Dio replaced Ozzy... But in my mind, they're just another band from the 70's and 80's.
  18. QUOTE (Xanadoood @ Mar 28 2012, 11:32 AM) QUOTE (Archangel717 @ Mar 28 2012, 11:24 AM) QUOTE (Xanadoood @ Mar 28 2012, 09:55 AM) QUOTE (Archangel717 @ Mar 28 2012, 09:47 AM) Black Sabbath Definately not as good as everyone makes them out to be. Wrong. They INVENTED Heavy Metal as we know it. You would be hard pressed to find a metal band who doesn't give props to Sabbath. WRONG you're thinking of Judas Priest. Heavy metal got it's name from Priest because they wore chains, and studded leather. Heavy metal didn't exist until Priest. If anything, Priest turned Metal into a joke with their studded leather chain silliness. I love Priest, and yes they were part of the next evolution in metal, but the roots of all Metal go back to Sabbath, with Zep and Purple as well. We wouldn't be calling it metal if it weren't for priest. It would still be Hard Rock.
