Untethered to reality, space and time, the Dallas Cowboys are at it again.

'Boys season-ticket holders opened mailboxes this week to find their annual batch of preseason and regular-season vouchers packaged alongside a "sheet of playoff tickets, including a ticket for the NFC Championship Game," according to ESPN.com's Darren Rovell.

NOTE: This is something no NFL team has ever done.

"It's a convenience for our season-ticket holders to have everything in one package," said Brett Daniels, the Cowboys director of corporate communications. "It's an evolution to be fan-friendly. They have their tickets online and if we clinch a playoff berth they go to the computer and click they want the tickets."

To be fair, Brian Lafemina, the NFL's senior vice president of club business development, told ESPN.com that he expects more teams to follow suit.

"It's operationally efficient for the teams, and it's convenient for the fan," Lafemina said. "There are times when teams don't know if they are hosting a playoff game until a week before, and doing this helps eliminate some of the friction that exists among the teams and fans. This dovetails nicely with our new policy. If a fan says they will pay if a game is played, the team can now charge that fan and the ticket is already in hand."

An efficient play by the Cowboys, but also one that -- to the average human -- reeks of hubris from a team that hasn't qualified for the NFC title game since Bill Clinton roamed the White House.

Coming off three straight hyper-vanilla 8-8 campaigns, Dallas -- according to Around the League scribe Chris Wesseling -- looms as a far stronger candidate for the No. 1 pick than a football game in January.

Back to Parcels, I really think that JJ only brought him in to get the deathstar built. Now, in his declining years, having made the Cowboys franchise worth so much money, I think he wants to go out a winner. I hope he's successful, but I have my doubts. He's gone a long way toward making the league what it is today. Maybe he can step back and let the real football men he's hired get it done.

The more I see and hear Stephen, the more optimistic I get. He actually speaks in clear thoughts. Jerry speaks gibberish. Stephen is clearly getting more and more power.

It seems that way but Jerry can't give the power away fast enough. I'm so tired of Jerry.

I was listening to the ticket today and a listener recommended (via-email or text) that Jerry should have his own t.v. station running 24-7 and uncut. I'd pay money to see that circus. Can't you just imagined an uncensored Jerry in his box during a game?

And now for something completely different. A discussion of football in a Cowboy's thread. Who else is eager to see how the revamped OL and a 40 year old Weeden do tonight? Edited by Weakly Criminal

I know it's only the first pre-season game but I was impressed with the offensive line. I have't seen that in 15 years or so. Our defense scares me to death. Durant ain't gonna cut it at middle linebacker. He can't shed defenders and he gets shove out of the play. We don't have any playmakers on that side of the ball. We need a spark on defense.

O line will be awesome - potentially the best in the NFL. I am worried about the defense but not overly concerned about the first game. We need to rush a LOT this year to keep the D off the field.

Watch out, 2013 New Orleans Saints...you may have company in the 7000 yard club.

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/11344352/dallas-cowboys-cornerback-orlando-scandrick-apologizes-failing-drug-test

OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick apologized Tuesday and expressed remorse after being suspended for the first four games of the coming season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Scandrick acknowledged that the suspension stems from testing positive for amphetamines, the result of recreational drug use in April during a vacation in Mexico with his ex-girlfriend. Scandrick declined to specify the drug he used, but league sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that it was MDMA, which is also known as Ecstasy or Molly.

"I made a bad decision," Scandrick said after the Cowboys' walk-through practice Tuesday, hours after the league announced the suspension. "I'm responsible for what goes in my body. I know I'm responsible for what goes in my body. It's a very humbling experience.

"I'm very sorry. I apologize to the Jones family. I'm very sorry to my teammates. I'm very sorry to the fans of Cowboys nation and I'm very sorry to my family."

While MDMA alone would be considered a drug of abuse but would not subject Scandrick to suspension as a first-time positive test, the drug sometimes contains amphetamine components, which fall under the league's PED policy and led to Scandrick's punishment.

He became the 21st player of 104 suspended for performance-enhancing drugs to test positive for MDMA.

Scandrick, a seven-year veteran coming off the best season of his career, tested positive in April and was informed Monday that the appeals process had been exhausted, making his suspension official.

Cowboys coaches and front office personnel have been aware of Scandrick's looming suspension since his failed test in April.

"It's disappointing," coach Jason Garrett said. "It certainly is. The rules are such that we have to control what goes into our body. We own that. We're completely responsible for that. Orlando was very apologetic about it. He realizes that it was a mistake and was very upfront about it, and it's behind him.

"What we're going to do now is we're going to make the best out of this situation, both in regards to him and in regards to our football team. It's important for him not to lose our spirit because he brings a lot to our team, and he will over the next few weeks of practice and then certainly when he comes back during the season."

Scandrick, who can participate in all of the Cowboys' preseason practices and games, addressed the team in a Monday morning meeting.

"The support from my teammates has been phenomenal," Scandrick said. "At the same time, I know this is a terrible thing and I'm hurting this team. Once again, I'm just standing here apologetic and remorseful."

Scandrick won the starting job last season after Morris Claiborne was injured during the preseason. He performed well, serving as a bright spot on a unit that ranked last in the league in total defense. Scandrick and Claiborne, who missed the preseason opener due to tendinitis in his right knee, were competing for a starting job again this summer.

With Scandrick suspended, young cornerbacks Sterling Moore, Terrance Mitchell and B.W. Webb will compete for the nickelback role.

Scandrick emphasized that he did not take a performance-enhancing drug with the intention to gain a competitive advantage. However, he took "full responsibility and accountability" for violating the league's policy.

"Obviously on that moment in April, I was very disrespectful to this game," Scandrick said. "I was very disrespectful to this team, to this organization, to the National Football League. I have to face the consequences for what I ingested."

Cowboys plan to add Michael Sam to practice squad

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 2, 2014, 4:46 PM EDT

http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/michaelsam-e1409690797619.jpg?w=197

Michael Sam is about to find an NFL home.

The Cowboys plan to bring in Sam for a physical and sign him to the practice squad if he passes, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Cowboys spent time today calling players to gauge their reaction to signing Sam. Apparently the reaction was what it should have been: If he can help the team, he should be signed. The Cowboys think having Sam on the practice squad could help.

There’s been much talk since the Rams cut Sam that teams are avoiding him because they don’t want the attention of having the NFL’s first openly gay player on their roster. But in the case of the Cowboys — where owner Jerry Jones thinks there’s no such thing as bad publicity — if anything Sam’s status as the NFL’s highest-profile practice-squad player may be a bonus.

A seventh-round draft pick out of Missouri who was the SEC’s defensive player of the year last year, Sam had a good preseason but wasn’t able to crack the 53-man roster in St. Louis. In Dallas, where the Cowboys are in desperate need of help on defense, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him eventually get added to the active roster. Dallas looks like a good fit for Sam.

Wonderful. Another distraction. This is Jerry trying to make headlines anyway possible.

He might be their best defensive player!

Those of you who follow my posts here know I am the biggest supporter of Tony Romo. Yesterday he lost me.

What a train wreck. Throwing over and over into double and triple coverage - jump balls. That throw into the end zone where he just floated it up into a sea of red??!! Running so well and they get to the goal line and he checks out of a run for a pass and gets sacked??!! Bad. I am kind of hoping they go 0-16 this year. It is time for a complete overhaul. I have never been this pessimistic going into a season. I am always an optimistic fan at the start of the season believing my team will do it this year. Not even a chance this season.
