I've really been into Storage Wars lately yes.gif

I never knew about storage auctions before and if I ever get some money together it would be something I would like to try out some day yes.gif

I love American Pickers and Pawn Stars as well.

i love them all but my favourite is american pickers, this would be my dream job(i know, weird!) biggrin.gif

Count me in the weird, then. I'd love to do that for a living! I'm an unapologetic flea market/yard sale/thrift shop maven. I know a good deal about collectibles and antiques - been learning about them for years (it runs in the family). I learn even more by watching these shows. I sell on ebay so I'm always on the lookout for stuff I can sell. Or stuff for my collection.

I voted for Cash In The Attic, which we get on BBC America. The hunt and then the auction is a great format. My husband pitched the idea to the PBS station he works for of doing this here in Seattle but they ignored him, of course. Now somebody else is doing it.

I'm watching Pawn Stars right now.... wink.gif

Pawn stars!...love it. American pickers is cool as well...Storage Wars rocks. I love em all!

Hardcore pawn is just ridiculous. There is nothing likeable about that family, unlike Pawn Stars.

Love Pawn Stars -Chum Lee's brilliant!

Not so struck on the Permatanned David Dickinson from Bargain Hunt, though.

pawn stars is great but the interplay between the family is so obviously scripted,as for dicko he is a legend biggrin.gif

OMG.... that guy! He always seemed to me to be the very epitome of the smarmy British chat show host. Or Dudley Moore playing one.

Also think that the Hardcore Pawn family is totally obnoxious. Don't watch anymore.

Barry rules!

Storage Wars is my fav, followed by Pawn Stars. Although, they are really two different types of shows.

I cannot stand Hardcore Pawn. All they friggin' do is yell at each other and the customers the whole damn show. I like how Pawn Stars tells the story behind the items. All Hardcore Pawn shows is idiot losers bringing in old lawn mowers and out of date computers and then they bitch when they get offered 5 bucks.

Laaaaame

While i've never frequented a pawn shop before in my life, I would guess that the way things go in Hardcore Pawn seems more real to how I think the day to day activities of a pawn shop would go, minus all the shouting of course wink.gif

Pawn Stars is my favorite though. There's always some cool items being brought in and the price haggling is always fun to watch. Especially when some dumbass won't take like 3,000 bucks for something. You're getting free money, take it and go to the casino you idiots laugh.gif

i don't watch any of these because most of them, like most reality tv, is fake. you can tell the people who come in are set ups.

Agreed

The first couple seasons of Pawn Stars were really entertaining....and parts of it still is, namely the items people bring in and learning about them and their worth, but the show has become way too scripted and set up....they're playing up the Chum Lee stupidity thing and Old Man and basically making characters out of these guys...so it's really not reality TV at all...they're just playing the roles people want to see

Why are they on the History Channel?

Can't speak for the other shows, but I know usually on Pawn Stars they would go into the history of each item and the process of verification. I always found it really fascinating. I haven't seen the show in a long while but I think they still do that.

They do.

And when I think about some idiot selling a family heirloom to get money to gamble with, it makes me sick. I grew up in Vegas and let me tell you, they didn't lose their way into those huge, fancy, expensive casinos. eh.gif

HURRAY! someone thinks the same thing. You're taking Grandpappy's rifle from the war between the states, bring it into the Pawn Stars shop (you can email em and see if they take interest in your heirloom by the way) and you get a thousandand some dollars for it. And your grandpappy left it to YOUR daddy cuz he thought it'd get passed down. History buff here, love the show, but wonder at people sometimes. (hey How, I'm an ebayer too, and Dianey comes from Auction and antique stock. Her Mom n Dad opened The Cracker Barrel their pawn/antique shop in Venice FL in the 70's)

Getting a bit of overload from shows like this, but Pawn Stars is my favorite. Used to like American Pickers, but that chubby guy gets on my nerves now.

The only thing annoying about Pawn Stars is how they obviously look up the items first and the main bald guy or his son will start spouting off this american history like they knew it off the top of their head. They probably know some things (lol), but it has been painfully obvious that they are trying to enhance this image that they are super smart about Eleanor Roosevelt's second husband's horse or whatever.

I don't think they are bullshitting. Being in the business as long as they have, they've acquired a lot of historical knowledge I'm sure.
