Nate2112
Extreme metal is a loosely defined umbrella term for a number of related heavy metal music subgenres that have developed since the early 1980s. The term usually refers to a more abrasive, harsher, underground, non-commercialized style or sound nearly always associated with genres like black metal, death metal, doom metal, thrash metal and sometimes speed metal, groove metal.[1] Though not very well known to mainstream music fans, as it is by definition counterculture, extreme metal has influenced an array of musical performers inside and outside of heavy metal. -Wikipedia, Extreme Metal Post All Bands and songs and discuss Extreme Metal DOOM DEATH BLACK EXTREME Here's a really good death/doom song by the German band Ophis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59cmd6iZkac

Check 'em out sometime. Though I was never a fan of Grindcore/Death, Nile is the best. I don't consider Opeth being really Death metal anymore. So for: Death: Ophis Nile Cannibal Corpse Black: Burzum Mayhem Darkthrone Doom: Skepticism Ahab Anilipnes Edited November 23, 2011 by Nate2112

PolarizeMe
Hmm, I was starting to try getting into extreme metal recently. I think I'll refer to this thread if I want to refer to bands I should try. Obviously, I love Opeth. Children of Bodom, I've know of them, I just haven't really listed to them, but they're from Finland, and knowing my love of Finland and the other Nordic countries in general, I'd probably dig them a lot. Boris I've only known through the Altar album they did with Sunn O))), who are my favorite drone doom metal band at the moment.

Snowman
Noone heard about Dimmu Borgir? I don't like this kind of music but Dimmu are pretty cool when the growler isnt growling. Lots of keys and very dramatic. Saw an recorded concert with Dimmu Borgir and a philharmonic orchestra. That was pretty cool.

That was pretty cool. Never really got into them too much after they got really symphonic - They're doing a few festivals in Europe with an orchestra next summer, which should be pretty cool. I'll have to make a big list of bands to check out some time, as that seems to be the thing to do in here Also, Nate, I thought Alloy came out a couple of years ago? Still a pretty solid album, mind. Enemy Within 77
Huge Doom fan here and you can't have a doom list without Saint Vitus!!! I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but to me they're even better than Sabbath. No one does or will do slow, lethargic metal better than those guys. Anyone know YOB? Really good shit worth checking out too. Doom On!!!!

Snowman
Found a link to a live gig with DImmu Borgir and KORK (philharmonic orchestra). Its pretty good as long as there are no growling. Very "Wagnerish". I bet Wagner, had he been born in 1980, would have played in a band like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP0f2RGbx_c&feature=related
