Aisle of Plenty is by far the best Genesis song. Concise, to the point, but it sums up the entire album perfectly.

Salmacis or Domino as a close 2nd

Well I count Aisle of plenty as part of the cinema show and I love that tiny piece of music sad.gif could listen to it on an infinite loop

Synchronicity II - The Police. Great non-run anthem of the 80's

"We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies..."

Great line!

And one of my very favorite but obscure 80's songs - What About Me by Moving Pictures (the band, not the album)! If you're from outside of Australia, you've probably never heard this.

I have this on cassette. Angel and the Madman is a great track.

Oh...Devo's Whip It would have to fit the OP's guidelines. What I like About You by the Romantics as well.

A long list of Lionel Ritchie tracks could be included...how 'bout Endless Love?

Synchronicity II - The Police.

Gotta love a song that has "humiliating kick in the crotch" in the lyrics!!

Copeland's drumming in the instrumental break is mindblowingly awesome. It's my favorite Police song.

INXS - Don't Change (RIP Michael Hutchence)

The Outfield - Your Love

I forgot about Your Love! Great tune!

To me a song that defines the 80s is "Don't You Forget about me" by Simple Minds. "the Breakfast Club" was a defining film for those of us in our teens in the mid-1980s.

Other tunes that are distinctly 1980s:

Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran"

Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Shout"

Swing Out Sister - "Breakout"

T'Pau - "Heart and Soul"

Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home"

Crowded House - "Don't Dream, it's Over"

For me the quintessential 80s song (I entered my teenage years in 1980, and left the decade having just celebrated my 22nd birthday) is True by Spandau Ballet. Not my favorite song of the decade, and I can't name another song by the Ballet, but that song immediately makes me think of "the 80s.' Adam Sandler apparently agrees with me, if The Wedding Singer is any indication.

I love "True" by Spandau Ballet.

Many find that the 80s to be a cheesy decade with regards to music and fashion, but I can say the past decade is downright embarrassing by comparison.
