Hoovermac
Mission, Bravado, Time Stand Still, The Pass, Resist, Ghost Rider, The previously mentioned verse from Everyday Glory, Entre Nous, Turn the Page Losing It, Marathon, Afterimage, and Emotion Detector are all songs that I find are very influential. A few of my favourite lines are: "Time Stand Still I'm not looking back but I want to look around me Time Stand Still See more of the places and the people that surround me now" After a good friend going away, and possibly never getting to see him again, I've found these lyrics really summed up my feelings. In fact, we shared a somewhat emotional moment over this song. "Illusions are painfully shattered Right where discovery starts" I've just always loved that line, and found it to be true "Shadows on the road ahead Shadows on the road behind Nothing can stop you now" For some reason, anytime I am feeling down, I throw this song on. This verse in particular for some reason gives me a second wind...Although I can't say it makes me immediately happy, it certainly helps bring me back up. "Some are born to move the world And live their fantasies But most of just dream about The things we'd like to be Sadder still to watch it die Than never to have known it For you the blind who once could see The bell tolls for thee..." Being 18 years old, this song motivates me to go for my dream...Don't be "the blind who once could see". "All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers turn to look at the cars" This line just reminds me...No matter how much you feel you've hit rock bottom, you've can work to make it better. "Why are we here? Because we're here, roll the bones Why does it happen? Because it happens, roll the bones" I've always loved this line...It reminds me to accept what happens, and that finding the reason why isn't always important. "You can do a lot in a lifetime If you don't burn out too fast You can make the most of the distance First you need endurance First you gotta last" Once again, being 18, this is a general quote I try to live by. "You can fight Fight without ever winning But never ever win Win without a fight" If you want something, you gotta try.
Tigershark2112
I once remember reading on Rolling Stone's website (I believe, go figure) that Neil is considered one of the top 40 worst lyricists. After going through all of these passionate comments and reading some of Neil's best work, I would fight to the death that he is certainly one of the best of all time. Screw them, they just don't get it...

As a matter of fact, you would probably do well just to ignore anything they publish.

Tigershark2112
@laughatbytime- I feel your screen name sums it up perfectly for the folks at Blender. I couldn't remember which magazine it was, I just assumed it was RS cos they've had so much beef with Rush over the years.

YYZ Working Man
It was just before sunrise When we started on traditional roles She said sure I'll be your partner But don't make too many demands I said if love has these conditions I don't understand those songs you love She said this is not a love song This isn't fantasy-land I'll be around If you don't push me down Too far
liddybuck01
No, his mind is not for rent. To any god or government." i seriously feel exactly like this. i will not believe just anything anyone tells me, especially about religion or politics. "I am made from the dust of the stars, and the oceans flow in my veins" ever notice how that line absolutely has nothing to do with the rest of the song? it's like Neil had this amazing line, and just threw it in there. so beautiful and poetic. "I said if love has these conditions, I don't understand those songs you love. She said this is not a love song, This isn't fantasy-land" gives me a funny feeling every time i hear this. like, damn, i can't even explain it haha. i love how geddy sings it, too. "And I believe in love, and that's faith enough for me" i live my life by this. as long as i have love, i am happy.
