Mr. Not
QUOTE (Bastille Dave @ Jun 25 2011, 12:19 AM)the whole YYZ track is like one long bass solo to me. Yeah, half of Rush's catalog is like that QUOTE (PhilCastro @ Jun 24 2011, 08:11 PM)Do the bass parts in the beginning and end of Red Barchetta constitute as bass solos? I went with YYZ... it doesn't get much better than that. I love the solo in Show Don't Tell as well I suppose the ending's, but the intro's bass isn't busy enough, I think. Well i consider Red Barchetta to have a bass solo when played live, certainly from R30 onwards and he really opens it up at the moment on this tour! There's also the great funky little bass solo ending on Red Lenses which unfortunately fades out in it's prime, the producer should have been shot for that! Then what about Open Secrets, that has a great bass solo in the middle? There's loads more aren't there!!
Drummerrobin
Ohh and if I remember rightly the outros to Spindrift and Secret Touch live are bass solos, or at least centred around the bass.

That was seriously funky and I hate the fact that it fades out! As a bass player, I think the YYZ little solos and the La Villa one are the coolest. But, most of Rush's songs have great bass. BringOutYourDead
The ending of "The Weapon" and the intro to "The Body Electric" should be added to this.
Mr. Krinkle
I chose Freewill from that list. Don't forget about that funky little riff Geddy peels off at the end of Red Lenses. It isn't that long at all, but it sure grooves. Edited June 26, 2011 by Mr. Krinkle
Rick N. Backer
It's hard to think of a Rush song that doesn't have a great bass line. But as someone who spent his teenage years trying to learn how to play every Rush song through GUP on the bass, I'd have to give the solo nod to Free Will. YYZ and La Villa have fantastic breaks, but Free Will has about 2 straight minutes of Geddy going absolutely berserk. Frankly, after Geddy's solo the whole band goes nuts, which makes the fact that it remains a song so amazing.
A Farewell to Things
QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jun 24 2011, 04:37 AM) The sound and the melody of the bass solo in Vital Signs was always my favorite. Captain Avatar
I voted for YYZ, simply because, to me, it sounds the most difficult. I'm not a bassist, so I could be way off on this, but isn't the bass part in that jam section in "Caravan" supposed to be pretty difficult to play? If so, perhaps it should be included on this list. Anyway, the guys who post covers on YouTube seem to struggle through that one.
New Digital Man
Digital Man is basically a bass solo with some drums and guitar added and right in the middle of the so called 'synth era'!
