the whole YYZ track is like one long bass solo to me.

Yeah, half of Rush's catalog is like that laugh.gif

Do the bass parts in the beginning and end of Red Barchetta constitute as bass solos?

I went with YYZ... it doesn't get much better than that.

I love the solo in Show Don't Tell as well

I suppose the ending's, but the intro's bass isn't busy enough, I think.

Well i consider Red Barchetta to have a bass solo when played live, certainly from R30 onwards and he really opens it up at the moment on this tour! There's also the great funky little bass solo ending on Red Lenses which unfortunately fades out in it's prime, the producer should have been shot for that! Then what about Open Secrets, that has a great bass solo in the middle? There's loads more aren't there!!

I LOVE the bass at the end of Red Lenses! That was seriously funky and I hate the fact that it fades out! As a bass player, I think the YYZ little solos and the La Villa one are the coolest. But, most of Rush's songs have great bass.

It's hard to think of a Rush song that doesn't have a great bass line. But as someone who spent his teenage years trying to learn how to play every Rush song through GUP on the bass, I'd have to give the solo nod to Free Will. YYZ and La Villa have fantastic breaks, but Free Will has about 2 straight minutes of Geddy going absolutely berserk. Frankly, after Geddy's solo the whole band goes nuts, which makes the fact that it remains a song so amazing.

The sound and the melody of the bass solo in Vital Signs was always my favorite.

Yes! So keep listing them, I'm going to make an updated poll in a week or two. Shouldn't be too much a burden, considering we have Enema spamming those Worst of the Best polls wink.gif

I voted for YYZ, simply because, to me, it sounds the most difficult.

I'm not a bassist, so I could be way off on this, but isn't the bass part in that jam section in "Caravan" supposed to be pretty difficult to play? If so, perhaps it should be included on this list.

Anyway, the guys who post covers on YouTube seem to struggle through that one.
