Does anyone know why Neil has started wearing headphones while drumming, it used to be very rare just on one or two songs, I'm sure when I saw Rush the other week in Manchester they were on constantly! Is this due to the new drumming style he developed/worked on, or some reason to be in time to video stuff? In mid 2010, he contracted an ear infection, which makes wearing In Ear Monitors incredibly painful (I talk from experience). Since then, he has wore 'over-ear' headphones, With the exception of Cleveland for the DVD recording, and Frankfurt at the end of the European leg of the tour. Prior to 2002 he had a loudspeaker based foldback system - using headphones occasionally for songs which required him to be dead in time with a sequencer - Red Sector 'A' springs to mind. Edit : To summarize - The headphones are just a method of feeding his monitor mix (a mix of the stage audio which suits the musicians requirements) to Neil. In the past he has used IEMs and also Loudspeakers, however, he has always* had monitor mixes - so in effect, nothing has changed since 1974. *I presume that in the past 37 years there may have been one or two failures of the monitor system. If you see the board hanging up after you hit Add Reply on a post, don't hit refresh to try and fix it -- refreshing is what creates the duplicate post.
