  1. QUOTE (tontonfranck @ Nov 11 2011, 10:27 AM) I never had the chance to see the guys on stage so I'm always very happy of each new dvd. And once again I think they made a very nice show in Cleveland. Yes...they did indeed! Maybe I'm looking at the wrong threads or the enthusiasm is not where I thought it would be. Can I find fault, why yes. My son and I attended the Greenville SC show after their break. Warmed up to the tour and they were fresh. I thought it was a better show but I'm biased, Cleveland was great too! Got the DVD as an anniversary present and it included the the "Rash" T-Shirt! The 5.1 sound sucked on the little TV but when I played it on the PC through a vintage Teac 4 channel mixer to the stereo it sounded GREAT. The vid is fine, my only complaint might be not enough of the screen shots behind the band at times. The detailed stage shots are gold, they got a lot of what we saw at the concert, the urgings, the nods, the kick ass attitude that they get from playing off each other. I loved Alex's solo for Working Man, it was just icing on the cake. He went nuts!
  2. QUOTE (CMWriter @ Aug 24 2011, 11:15 PM) QUOTE (Cygnus X1 @ Aug 24 2011, 06:20 PM) From the "business meeting", Geddy says: "Don't kill the new guy, it would be bad for business". "Don't kill Pratt! It's not good for business! Think of the children!" I just about died laughing. That's it. Great quote!
  3. Obviously...not at all. Love both bands and I usually don't spin them in the same listening or playing practice sessions. I'll do Rush alongside Pink Floyd mid era (DSOTM to Wall), Steely Dan, Boz Skaggs, Metallica, King Crimson, Yes, ELP... But after I warm up with Triumph, 38 Special, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, etc. The first list goes for the technically proficient. The second is to warm up! Never thought Triumph was trying to be Rush at all. And I would wager Rush listened to Triumph too!

    Hello from me

Welcome from another New Guy. I dropped in this morning only to be sprung to a YT link to "Classic Albums 2112 to Moving Pictures". If you haven't seen it, do it. The extended parts are great.
  6. Welcome aboard from another new guy. I saw them first during RTB tour and they spoiled me for any other concerts! And I went to a lot of rock shows back in the early eighties. Made sure to see them this time, same result. Any concert I go to has to be RUSH.
  7. Thanks all! I somehow posted two different intro threads...(damn 'puter)... Western Finger Lakes region. I was an avid ski nut for a while, then lived in Phoenix for three years. After finding I liked the hot environment better (endless summer) I could care less if I never saw snow again. But still is fun when we get out annual snowfall for about a day here in SC. Got it twice this year, once six inches overnight. I posted my own Greenville review in the Time Machine section. Stunning show! I build tube guitar amps for a full time hobby. Small watt, high gain tone that lends itself to Alex's style with his H&K's, slaved out to effects and a Peavey SS for a stereo setup. Now I'm finding myself playing a lot more Rush...taking on the challenge of Alex. In the past I usually played along with the bass which is a fun trial in itself. I'm still a hack at it after 30 years of trying! But so much fun. As Alex said, when you're in the zone you don't really think about the notes...and it just works. That's my key to picking it up and am usually passable when I get there.
  8. Show Time! Hard to describe without getting into all of the cliches. Just back from Euro leg of the tour they started off a little cold (half a song to warm up) but after that....not a complaint except for one: the incredible low tones generated on Geddy's synth were painful during Subdivisions and a couple other songs. More than likey it was my seating...lower deck 2/3's back where the bass can bounce off the back wall on occasions. But what a synth it is! (I drove up from Columbia with my 17 YO son, his first major concert). The show itself...the set, the films, the details. Just incredible production and execution. I see why the ticket prices seem so high - it must cost a mint to get all that together. Was it me or could I actually FEEL the heat from the Witch Hunt flames? Execution-although they have all of the tools at their disposal when they bumped the Time Machine back to 2112 the gadgetry was dispensed of seamlessly and it was just like looking at the band on stage from 1977. The sparse white lights spotlight the band and the stage "choreography" looked the same with Geddy and Alex performing their own moves like they did then. Hard to pick a favorite but from my username you can probably guess I just loved that segment. BU2B was great...Watchhmaker also incredible. They are stronger than ever... Intro and intermission movies were a riot also! ("Moving pitchers"...LOL) What is the best about "Rash" is they are having fun and it shows. I hope I can go like that when I'm 58 years old.
  9. I get it. "Don't feed the trolls". As a new guy I'll say I am in favor of voting for polls! Back on topic IEM's can be a problem for many and once you've had an ear infection they seem to return with ease.
  10. Double post. Actually twice now. Firefox is blocking posting...I have to change settings.
  11. QUOTE (Cosy Toes @ Jun 4 2011, 05:57 PM) QUOTE (Sir Lerxst @ Jun 4 2011, 10:25 PM) In mid 2010, he contracted an ear infection, which makes wearing In Ear Monitors incredibly painful Caused by dried Semen from Geddy and Alex trying to f**k some sense into him. Just wondering. I'm new here. Is this forum moderated? IMO comments like this have zero value.
  12. I'd say "hey y'all" but I'm a transplanted upstate NY guy. Good to be here! Long time guitarist, amp builder, first real Rush experience was from being drawn in by "A Farewell to Kings" back when it came out. I'm one to admit I didn't like early Rush and ended up growing with the band, and finally appreciating 2112 for what it is, a masterpiece. I'm Cygnus X1 in very many forums, mostly guitar related. JCF, TFF, MLP, many others. Saw Rush the first time during Roll the Bones tour...absolutely great, and hard to believe of all the concerts I had attended it was the first chance I got! Will be going to Greenville show with my 17 YO son, his first big concert. I am STOKED for it. It still awes me that Rush keeps getting better. Cheers!
