sweet kits man! 1022.gif

Thanks man...The kit's 15 years old (the electronic kit is only 6 years old). I used to have them set up as one kit ala vintage Neil (1982-1991ish)

Nice kits man! Those must be a really big bitch to set up?

Yeah it is....Once I really get this kit set up, I am keeping it there for as long as I can! I want to add to it. Get the electronics on the back & use acoustic bass drum & snare & cymbals on the back end....Add a few more things to the front....

How much did that roughly cost?

I have to estimate as it wasn't bought all at the same time. The acoustic kit was $6,000 in 1992. The electronic kit was $2500 (roughly but I got it at that price working for a music retailer)....So, I'd say somewhere in the $8,500-$9,000 range...Not exactly sure over all....I still love that kit! wub.gif

Ah yes....Vintage Ludwig....THOSE Ludwigs, I like....Anything after 1979 seemed to go downhill manufacturing-wise...Those are nice...What cymbals are you going with?

not sure. i like bright sizzlely types. not brash and loud. ive got cheap b8s and some real old zildjan rock tones from the early 90s. holy crap they sound bad. high hats are old paiste rock beats i think.

OK....remember to try out every cymbal & compare to the others that will be in the set. I was lucky on my cymbals, apparently, either I have a very good ear or that was the luckiest purchases I could get! lol

Ok...here is my set up.

I know it's rather basic.

1965 Slingerland It was my Father's drum set.

The best sounding kit i've ever played.

Here's a thing that most drummers don't know....The more you play your drums, the better they sound. It's the process as acoustic guitars. It's called aging....The wood settles due to the vibrations & the sound becomes sweeter (which is why many players love their old kits). That is one hell of a kit Psykotik.....It's worth $$$ too. '65 Slingerland....Those were kit (like the Gretsch & Ludwigs too!!).....I don't like the newer Slingerlands northe Ludwigs but the Gretsch's aren't half bad (since Gretsch is owned by Kaman Music-the company that owns 90% of the hand percussion manufacturer's etc...)

I love DW....I didn't think I would since I didn't like Neil's HYF-CP Ludwig kit. But I worked at a music retailer & fell in love with them....Especially the Edge snare.... wub.gif

The Cymbal on the far right(stage left) is an original Instabul K

complete with rivets. I love the sizzle sound.

the HighHats are some of the first American Zildjians

Everything else is Zildjian. Only the best.(Paragons aside)

Sabian's are made almost the exact same way as Zildjians. Sabian is owned by the other Zildjian brother. He asked to be bought out. Took the $$$ to Canada & named the company after his 3 children: Sally, Billy, Andy (from what I've been told)

Most of the sounds you like in Zildjian are comparable to Sabians & vice versa....That's why I have a little mix (bought the cymbals in the late 80's & early 90's save for the 15" A Custom crash (I have a Sabian 17" medium thin crash that is the early Sabians...the ones that sparked Zildjian to come out with the A Customs & Sabian expanded it's line to get AA & changed these to AAX.....Anyway, it was put with a 16" A Custom & that Sabian 17")

So, you can mix & mingle as much as you'd like....BTW, if anyone was wondering about Neil's 22" Paragon ride & which ride in Zildjian to get (22" Ping ride...I have that one at my friend's decision when I first started playing)

I still play Slingerland. I love my 1980 8-pc Maple deep-shell kit, and my "1970's?" maple 4-pc with chrome finish. Nice deep, warm tones.

I see Gibson has licensed the Slingerland name and is in production making drum sets now.

This is my Slingerland bigger kit as shown on Rockenwraps.com. Scott Rockenfield hooked me up when he first founded his drum-covering company. He was going to build me a cutom kit but I decided to save a couple grand and redo my slingerlands...

Took me long enough to get around to this.

Well, I guess I can show off my electronic drums, and maybe an old shot of the combined acoustic and electrics.

I guess I should say that I am mostly a fan of Rush's more synth-dominated era; albums like Power Windows, HYF and GUP I love, especially ASOH. But yeah, I love ALL Rush, not just a couple of years in the 80's. But because I really like his mid-80's style, when I had a bit of money and time on my hands, I got some equipment I thought was cool.

So yes, those are SDS9 pads, just like what Neil had. And, they are in mint condition. Plus, if you look close you can see a 6" Dauz pad and a F.A.T. kat trigger pedal like what he currently has on his drums. I should probably explain that I *do* have a Simmons bass drum, it's just not set up right now. Also, the placement and angles of the pads might look messed up, that's because they are. I just set up the electric set by itself and everything's still to the positioning of where they were tacked onto my acoustic kit (because of memory locks). And I just grouped everything much closer together. When I first started playing, I would spend hours just adjusting heights, lengths, widths, angles, all that jazz. Now, I give myself the challenge of forcing myself to be flexible while playing. I'll just place things wherever and make myself adapt, and be a better player for it.

Just for a comparison to Neil's kit from ASOH:

http://photos-417.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v82/231/23/510545529/n510545529_108417_7054.jpg

and here's an old shot from the side of my combined acoustic and electronic kits, back when they were together:

http://photos-914.ak.facebook.com/ip002/v72/231/23/510545529/n510545529_102914_7117.jpg

I'm adding more as I can afford. I'm starting with replacing all the my original crappy hardware. All the new stuff's Pearl or DW. I bought a Pearl H-2000 hi-hat stand, and a DW 9300 snare stand. They're both worth every penny, IMO. Same with all the cymbal stands, and tom arms. The Pearl Uni-Lock System is wonderful, adjusting the arms is smooth because they have no gears w/teeth. tongue.gif The outputs of the electronic drums go to my patchbay where they either go to a Simmons TMI (I got it for only $20 off eBay and it works great! Anyone want to sell me another?), and from there it goes to whatever synth/sampler program I want via MIDI, or instead it'll be routed to my Simmons Clap Trap (definately paid alot more the $20 for that gem, but worth it all. It's the nifty little thing that you hear making the cool snare drum sounds in songs like "The Big Money", and especially noticable during the intro to "Mystic Rhythms".)

Err, just so that you guys believe me, here's the clap trap (there's one of the Roland D-550's above it too):

So yeah, those are my electric drums. Among other things, I sampled the kit he used for the song "Scars", and it sounds awsome and is totally fun to play. What do you guys think?

A very underrated album was Hold Your Fire (IMHO). I also come from the 80's genre but I like all decades from them. Gotta love them Simmons (SDS9, I presume?). Did you know that Simmons is making a comeback? I can't say that it will be like the Roland's as I don't think anything has been able to come close to touching the ingenuity of these Bad Larry's....
