ozzy85
A somewhat obscure band, but try Focus ...stick with the 1974 and earlier stuff. They make my playlist often.

Back when my friend Grandpa Grizz was alive, he co-hosted my radio show once and he played a 15-minute track form this album. Imaginos
If you like "Riverside" check out another Polish band named "Pinkroom". Germany's "RPWL" are another great prog band (quite Pink Floyish in places).

tjtull
QUOTE (rushgoober @ Sep 29 2010, 10:53 AM) QUOTE (Joshua @ Sep 29 2010, 08:12 AM) I am puzzled by rushgoober's omission of Yes's Tales From Topographic Oceans. Concerning Yes, I would highly suggest Close To The Edge as an essential prog record. I also would strongly disagree with his Jethro Tull picks. Essential prog Tull are the albums, Thick As A Brick and Passion Play. The latter record more so. It is sadly an underrated and misunderstood prog-rock masterpiece that gets dismissed even by other Tull fans. Requires a couple good focused listens for proper absorption. Brilliance. on Tales - I added it in. Thick is a Brick is great, but it still needs to grow on me more. Passion Play has some really great sections but that cartoony part just kind of kills it for me. Still, both are well worth owning... The use of alliteration in The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles is what gets me to listen to it. I admit, when I first listened to A Passion Play, I didn't get it at all...and didn't for years. It's an album that takes a very long time to absorb. So much going on. I like your earlier list, especially your KC selections!!

ProgArchives has ratings on releases by that band. I would check out Sylvan as well. They have some great music in a similar Prog vein. Their two best CDs are Posthumous Silence and Artificial Paradise.
