I think I did this a while ago, but since then I've listened to a lot more music, so I'm going to redo it.

Anglagard - Hybris
Dixie Dregs - What If
ELP - Brain Salad Surgery
ELP - ELP
ELP - Tarkus
ELP - Trilogy
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Gentle Giant - Octopus
VdGG - He To He, Who Am The Only One
VdGG - Pawn Hearts
VdGG - Godbluff
Yes - Close To The Edge
Yes - Drama
Yes - Fragile
Yes - Going For The One
Yes - The Yes Album

edited for length:

Based on what I've seen here, all of which is very good, I might suggest a band called UK. If you get into Gentle Giant, you will definitely like these guys.

In The Dead of Night

Bill Bruford - Drums, percussion

Allan Holdsworth - Guitars

Eddie Jobson - Electric violin, keyboards, electronics

John Wetton - Bass, lead vocals

I've heard of them, but never actually listened to them. I'm listening to "In The Dead of the Night" and its really good. Thanks for the link. I'll get some of their stuff soon.

These are essential VdGG prog albums, according to Progarchives.

H to He, Who Am The Only One

Pawn Hearts

Godbluff

Still Life

And I definitely agree.

However, if I had to shorten this list to an essential two, it would be Pawn Hearts and Godbluff.

Personally it'd be Still Life and Pawn Hearts, although my favorite VdGG songs are scattered all over the place (pun intended).

And not as essential, but still great: Peter Hammill's solo albums from Chameleon to In Camera.
