The Packer's are a winning franchise and it showed yesterday. It's the reason why a team like Detroit, for all their talent ends up watching at playoff time. Rodgers always gives you a chance to win and I screamed bloody murder when my Niner's didn't draft him.

The Packers' coaching staff and players have character. They've created a culture of self-sacrifice, accountability, and playing all 60 minutes of every game. The Lions didn't have that under Jim Schwartz and his staff. The Packers have a great quarterback in Rodgers, but he wouldn't be so great without the commitment of his teammates and coaches.

The Packers are a winning franchise? I think you meant whining. Guess what team is on the links like the Lions? LOL. Character, self sacrifice, accountability? Come on. Oh sure, they made it into the playoffs. Great. What did that get them? A loss. There wasn't anyone that didn't know that was going to happen. I was happy when that "lucky" field goal was kicked because it knocked the most arrogant fans in the NFL down another notch. Thanks Niners. The Pack gets to fall to the Kaepernick God again. It must be a beautiful feeling to know when you play GB, you're going to win.

OK, Packer fans, what we have here is an off-season full of uncertainty. QB coach Ben McAdoo is now the Offensive Coordinator for the Giants, and OLB coach Kevin Greene is stepping down to spend time with his family. The NFL Draft is four months away, yet Packer fans are already chomping at the bit to see some new blood come in to challenge the not-to-be-named underperformers on the team.....

But most importantly, the Packers have a LOT of players who are free agents. Who will be offered new contracts? Who won't be? Who will the Packers make their priority? Will they sign Matt Flynn, the enigmatic backup QB, or will they go with the prospect Scott Tolzien? Will the entire defensive line be different next year? And will Clay Matthews get some help at OLB?

Uncertainty, indeed......

Ted Thompson has always eschewed signing other teams' FAs. If they lose a significant number of key guys from this list, do you expect that to change?

ETA: Chris Banjo REALLY needs to sign with Tennessee.

Thompson is not totally adverse to signing free agents. He scored big time with Charles Woodson, Ryan Pickett, John Kuhn and Tramon Williams. He's also signed other FA's who have contributed a fair amount to the team. What Thompson doesn't do is go after the high profile (and overpriced) free agents. He waits until the insane bidding war is over, and then he goes after the players who can help the team win. As always, he has a budget, so he wants to get a good player without destroying the teams' salary cap situation.

Will he go after Greg Hardy or Brian Orakpo or Jarius Byrd? If they demand elite money, then Thompson won't bite. If a player like Orakpo makes a reasonable demand, then perhaps the deal will be done. The Packer defense sure could use him!!

The Packers went after Steven Jackson, but it became known that Jackson negotiated with them only to maneuver the Falcons into offering more money. He never wanted to play in Green Bay. He wanted to play in Atlanta all along........and he was a miserable failure in 2013..... :laughing guy:

Eddie Lacy - 2013 Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year

You GO, Eddie....you GO!!! :ebert: :ebert:

First Packer to win the Rookie Of The Year since John Brockington. Eddie brings a pounding, never say die attitude with his running, and his ability to cut upfield and make defenders HURT has been a huge addition to the Green & Gold.....

We had a very cool visitor at work today. Meet the new head coach of the Detroit Lions, Jim Caldwell. The gauntlet is thrown for 2014! Go, PACK, GO!!! It can be tough to be a Packers fan in The D-, but mostly, everyone has a pretty good nature about the NFC Central rivalry...

OK, Packer fans, the wonderful world of free agency is upon us, and the Packers, as usual, are not expected to spend Big Money for other teams' players. The Packers always try to keep their own FA players, as their abilities are well known, and they won't need any extra time to adjust to their new team.

2014 may see some big changes, though. The defensive line may be completely different, as Raji, Pickett, Jolly, WIlson, and Neal could all be gone. CB Sam Shields, the Packers' most coveted FA, is seeking Big Money, and will be testing the open market (thanks to his evil agent, Drew Rosenhaus). WR James Jones is likely to be off to a new team, as newcomer Jarrett Boykin filled in very nicely for Jones in 2013.

And, of course, Packers fans may no longer be chanting KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHNNNN!!....as the FB may be changing teams as well.

Unrestricted Free Agents:

B.J. Raji - Contact talks ongoing

John Kuhn - Contract talks ongoing

Evan Dietrich-Smith - Contract talks ongoing

A Wisconsin native, I bleed red & white on college football Saturdays and Green & Gold on NFL Sundays. A few dozen years ago, I was a walk-on with the UW Badgers and got my clock cleaned, but good, by a bunch of really BIG football players. It was fun and an adventure but my body still pays the price today. Go PACKERS!!!

One of the top free agent cornerbacks is off the market.

The Packers and cornerback Sam Shields have reached a four-year, $39 million contract, a league source told PFT’s Mike Florio on Saturday.

Shields will receive a $12.5 million signing bonus, and his 2014 compensation is $15 million. By the second season, Shields is slated to have made $21 million, and the deal is worth $30 million through 2016.

The 26-year-old Shields recorded 61 tackles, defended 16 passes and intercepted four passes in 2013.

Shields was PFT’s No. 15-ranked free agent and the No. 5-ranked player at a strong group of prospective free agents at his position. His departure doesn’t hurt the leverage of New England’s Aqib Talib, Indianapolis’ Vontae Davis, Tennessee’s Alterraun Verner and Denver’s Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Soon, it could be easier to list the teams that aren’t interested in Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, who previously pegged the Jets, Vikings, and Rams as having interest in the No. 10 player on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100 list, now reports that the Lions, Steelers, and Giants also have interest in Verner.

A fourth-round pick in 2010 from UCLA, Verner has started every game the last two years, becoming one of the best young corners in the NFL in the process. The Titans opted not to apply the franchise tag to Verner, which would have paid him a lot of money on a one-year deal. It now appears that Verner will be getting a lot more money on a multi-year deal, from someone.

Of course, it’s one thing for teams to show interest and another for that interest to become a contract offer. Teams that plan to box out the other contenders for Verner will need to have the cap space to do it.

The Steelers don’t. But it costs no cash or cap space to show interest.

An obscene amount of money, but I'm glad Shields is still a Packer!!

Here's a bit more on this:

Alterraun Verner? Isn't he something you'd ride in the Northwoods?

It's this guy again...

More teams are clamoring for Verner

This Verner?

Wasn't there a Verner in one of those National Lampoon films?
