Would you send this?

I have the leather bound limited edition collection of Rush tourbooks. It is one of my most prized posessions. These were NOT cheap, and I haven't heard any murmurings of further releases.

Now, as some folks know, you can send items to the tour venue along with self-addressed paid return postage. All of this is laid out on a table when Alex, Neil, and Geddy arrive, and they will sign everything - yes, Neil included. It's then mailed back to the sender as the tour leaves for the next city.

I'm seriously thinking about sending this book along for signing. Caveat: the US Postal Service is not known for its awesomeness. Far from, in fact. I'd be heartbroken if my last view of it was just before I sealed it in the box for mailing.

Do I risk this, knowing that if it's lost I have only a slim chance of ever getting my hands on another one? Or just send something of lesser personal value?

I sent my S&A Tourbook last year and never got it back. That's the only time I ever plan on doing it now.

Maybe others have better stories, but mine wasn't so good.

Sounds too risky for such a prized possession.

I was going to send a CD with the booklet taped on the outside for easy access and an obvious signing spot.

If your Tourbook collection can be replaced, maybe insure it and go for it.

Good luck.

Hi Mara!

I would send it. I understand where you're coming from though.

That would totally fu#king suck if you somehow lost that tourbook but I seriously don't see that happening.

By any chance, could you send me that info.? I have that tourbook too. It's not bound in leather, but I'd like to send mine.

Here's an idea. I'll send mine out first and if all goes well, I'll contact you and let you know how it went. That way maybe you could feel a little better about the situation.

By the way, I think you're totally hot. When you send me the details for sending out my tourbook to get signed, could you send some bikini pics of you as well? Thank you.

I'm editing this because I've just read some of the other posts. It doesn't sound like such a great idea now. (sending out your tourbook. NOT the pics of you in a bikini which is a great idea.) I would do it anyway because if you did get it back, what a prize. If you do send me the details, I'll look at it and possibly be able to give you some better advice. I still want to send out my tourbook though regardless of what others are saying. It's worth the risk to me. But then again, my tourbook is not as rare as yours. Let me know.....

Caveat: the US Postal Service is not known for its awesomeness.  Far from, in fact.

As someone that runs a small business and shipped almost 10,000 packages last year. I can tell you that the US Postal Service is better than any of the private carriers. When I first took over the business, we were shipping with private carriers only, then switched to private plus USPS. Now we are exclusively using USPS only due to having the least amount of problems. I hate to hear people slam the USPS when the other carriers are worse.

With that said, I would still be hesitant to send one of my prize possessions anywhere. It's not just the mail carriers you have to worry about but what happens to the item when it ends up at it's final destination. I'd probably worry more about the people working at the venues than a postal carrier.

I have had a leather bound copy of Genesis I Know What I Like book since 1981. Over the years I personally managed to get every member, that has been in the band since 1971, to sign the book. And most of those signatures were obtained prior to my 20 year stint in the music business. I don't think I would ever dream of sending that book to anyone. I barely show it to anyone these days. tongue.gif

If you do send it make sure you have it insured and get a signature confirmation. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Okay. You are a riot, Andrew - never fail to make me smile! Um, in order to send bikini pics, I'd have to have a bikini! tongue.gif I like bathing suits I can actually swim in, though!

Correction -it's not leather bound (Andrew, neither am I, sorry). I think there may have been a few of these released in the leather; mine isn't one of them. But it's nice, and very rare. I will try to find a link to a pic of one (mom has my digital camera). Once in a while they do pop up on eBay and they sell for over $400, usually. Mine's in mint condition, as I've looked at it maybe 3 times, including just now when I went to check on the leather cover thing.

Not shipping. Too many horror stories. All it takes is one dishonest asshole, or one careless postal employee (though we know that NEVER happens).

No bikini pics? Nude will suffice then. I'm not that particular. You could send me a pic of you eating hot wings on a tractor dressed like a dealer in a casino and I'd be happy Mara!

One thing I don't understand though. Why would they offer this to people when it seems to have such negative feedback and lack of success? I still want to try it though. Were you going to send me the details or maybe point me in the right direction? Just wondering.

Past experiences or feedback from others aside... I would never send out something that was irreplaceable. If there was a way to get a new one should it go missing, even at a higher price than originally paid? That's different. It would suck to have to replace it, but at least it could be.

But something that can't be replaced... scared.gif

It's a pretty simple deal. The "mistakes" that have been made seem to be pretty minimal and they're Post Office f*ck-ups, not Rush's people. A lot of people here, myself included, did this last tour. I sent my copy of Roadshow and got Neil's autograph on it, and all 3 signed the S&A Live CD insert.

I sent it to Rush, addressed to the venue, and I did send it "delivery confirmation" to make sure it got there in time. The venue will hold it for the band's tour management, or at least most of them have been good about it so far. I enclosed a SASE, with a pre-printed label asking to be notified of the ship date (USPS pre-print label off the website). They sent it, if I recall correctly, two days after the Atlanta date.

I'd love to do FedEx as I trust them a little more, but I think the person in charge of getting all the packages mailed out likes to make just one dump-off at the closest postal facility.

I don't recommend loading up a gigantic box of stuff for them to sign; I'm going to send one or two small items.

Here's a link to the Rush Tour book I mentioned earlier. I am sure at some point it'll be reprinted, but I'm not taking the chance.

I wonder if you hand carry it to where they are playing-if you're going to the show and get some type of "receipt" to be able to pick it up whether they sign it or not..? I'm not sure how to go about doing it this way, just a thought... confused13.gif

I absolutely, in no way, shape or form would send such a prized possession. Don't do it. Find something else Mara.

I'm sending a small package to the Seattle venue. Odd, but it's going to seem that much more special to me (assuming I get everything back!) since I won't be going to the actual show.

Anyway, do you have a Plan B, Mara?

I don't really have a "Plan B", but I'm sure I can find something else for autographing!

Not sending this. It would be so totally awesome to have the guys' signatures on it, but the only way I'll do that is if it never leaves my possession. I was iffy about it anyway, leaning towards "no", but all the input definitely cemented that decision.

Thats the kind of thing for a meet and greet, which means you wont get Neil's sig on it though. You send it in the mail and once thats opened, hands will be on it, it could get dropped, misplaced, stolen, sent back to someone else, too risky for something actually worth something.

Phew! I have to admit, the thought of you sending that was making me nervous.
