Combine the later albums

I think my issue with the post-HYF albums is that I often like half of the songs A LOT (and apparently the band feels the same way since they've only done half of each album live) and just despise the other half.

So if you were to combine the pairs of similar albums into one album, what would the tracklist be? Keep the amount of songs the same as whatever the tracklist of the average of the two is

(Presto/RTB, CP/TFE, VT/S&A)

1. Show Don't Tell

2. Bravado

3. The Pass

4. Chain Lightning

5. Heresy

6. Dreamline

7. Presto

8. Roll The Bones

9. Hand Over Fist

10. Available Light

1. Animate

2. Double Agent

3. Stick It Out

4. Cut To The Chase

5. Half The World

6. Time & Motion

7. Alien Shore

8. Virtuality

9. Resist

10. Leave That Thing Alone

11. Test For Echo

1. Far Cry

2. Armor & Sword

3. Earthshine

4. Peaceable Kingdom

5. Spindrift

6. Bravest Face

7. Faithless

8. Sweet Miracle

9. Vapor Trail

10. Secret Touch

11. Freeze

12. One Little Victory

The TFE/CP one would definitely be one of my top Rush albums if it had that tracklist, the Presto/RTB loses most of its filler songs, yet I still pretty much dislike the VT/S&A one.

Really? Their early albums? Hmmm. I'm going to go for the following as far as CP/T4E

Animate

Stick it Out

Driven

Between the Sun and Moon

Alien Shore

Time and Motion

Double Agent

Leave That Thing Alone

Limbo

Cold Fire

Presto/RTB

Show Don't Tell

Bravado

The Pass

Available Light

I guess it's more of an EP

VT/S&A

Armor and Sword

Ceiling Unlimited

Secret Touch

Vapor Trail

Faithless

Malignant Narcisism

Maybe I should combine P/RTB/VT and S&A to make one album.

I think if I could combine any two after HYF (just to play along) it'd be Roll The Bones & Presto, both of which I like fine enough as is...but of which both could use some trimming.

Here's what I'd cut:

Superconductor

Hand Over Fist

Anagram

Face Up

Where's My Thing

You Bet Your Life

Neurotica

....and what's left would make an incredible Rush record.

VT is not mediocre  no.gif

Agreed. It sounds like brick-walled shit, but the songs are good.

Ill just do VT and S&A since I dont really like either album very much, but I think an album of these songs would be decent.

Ceiling Unlimited

Earthshine

Armor and Sword

Vapor Trails

Spindrift

Nocturne

Freeze

TMMB

Stars Look Down

As you can see basically what I did was pick all the songs that I feel have a more modern and edgy sound to them, and dumped all the other crap. To me this would be a pretty strong album.

To me it's a matter of combining their early albums into good albums, quite honestly.

This, I'll enjoy doing, even though I like their 70s albums and 90/00's alike.

(Rush/Fly By Night)

Finding My Way

Need Some Love

Anthem

Best I Can

Fly By Night

Before and After

Working Man

By-tor and the Snow Dog

(CoS/2112)

Bastille Day

Lessons

A Passage to Bangkok

The Fountain of Lamneth

2112

(AFTK/Hemispheres)

A Farewell to Kings

The Trees

Cinderella Man

Cyngus X-1

La Villa Strangiato

Closer to the Heart

lol wow, I love how this thread just arrogantly assumes the most recent albums were "mediocre," like it's a proven fact. rofl3.gif

To some people (read: 95% of the forum), it IS fact.

I'm part of that 5% that disagrees, though. smile.gif

I don't find the last five albums to be mediocre, I find T4E, RTB, and Presto to be mediocre. To be honest, CP is fantastic-near flawless and I really enjoy about 2/3 of VT and at least half of S&A.

Since when has Counterparts been proven to be shit? I think Counterparts is one of their better albums.

Sure, there's definitely some stuff I'd cut out of Roll the Bones and Presto (I don't even own Test For Echo if that shows you how I feel about it), but I honestly think Snakes and Arrows and Vapor Trails are both very good as well. They have a few iffy songs, but I still enjoy the albums on whole.

If I combined Presto, Roll the Bones, Test For Echo and Vapor Trails, I still wouldn't have a full album of good material.

This is pretty much what I would listen to:

Chain Lightning

The Pass

Dreamline

Bravado

Where's My Thing

Even then, I would only really be excited about the first three songs. There's nothing from T4E or VT I would have any desire to listen to.
