In retrospect, do you think the Star Wars prequels should have been made or not? Which option fits you best?

    • I'm glad they got made - they were great - a worthy addition to the Star Wars universe!
      5
    • They weren't as good as the originals, but I'm glad they're there.
      14
    • I'm ambivalent - decent movies - fine with them, would have been fine without them.
      7
    • They were ok or not so great - it would have been better they never existed - they tarnish the Star Wars legacy.
      6
    • WTF was George Lucas thinking with this craptacular trilogy? What a way to ruin a franchise!

And we saw Mace Windu, minus a 'I'm going to kick your mofo'ing ass, Palpatine', but he was worth it.

I think he may be my favorite character of the prequels.

Reading the book of Ep. III helps me to appreciate him more, as it gives his character a lot more depth.

I would like to see a prequel about Han Solo's past; smuggling and doing that Kessel run. I think that would be interesting and entertaining.

The Han Solo Adventures, by Brian Daley, is a 1979 trilogy of science fiction novels which take place two years before the events of A New Hope. The trilogy follows the smuggling days of Han Solo and Chewbacca before the movies. The books in the trilogy are:

Han Solo at Stars' End (April 1979)

Han Solo's Revenge (June 1979)

Han Solo and the Lost Legacy (August 1979)

These were some of the very first books set in the Star Wars universe, released before The Empire Strikes Back.

I never got into fan-fic but I'm open to the concept. smile.gif

Have you read these? Are they good?

Lucas needs to hire a competent director and gets these made. They would kick ass, as well as being a cash cow.

He probably doesn't own the rights to them, but I think he could buy the rights and still make some pretty good money.

What current 20- or 30-something actor would make the best Han Solo now?

Best Han Solo. Not the most baked Han Solo.

I went with "They were ok or not so great - it would have been better they never existed - they tarnish the Star Wars legacy"

I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I've seen the original ones countless times and never grow tired of them. The Empire Strikes Back is my all time favourite! Such an epic film yes.gif I still remember the first time I saw the Hoth battle. It was the most amazing thing I had ever laid eyes on. The AT-ATs blew my mind 1022.gif

Like so many others, I was really excited to see the new movies and like so many others, I was disappointed. Now, I do think that the new ones have some really good battle/action sequences, but overall, I'm not a big fan. They've got nothing on the original 3.

My 2 cents.

Lucas did the right thing and finished off the series. I find it funny when people get all pissed off about the prequels. In my honest opinion, Revenge of the Sith is better than Return of the Jedi in some ways. If you really look at the movies for what they are, they were done properly. Phantom Menace, okay fine, that was a bit crappy but Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are still great.

I love how people can individually pick on different movies in the Star Wars series; especially Attack of the Clones. Just remember that Star Wars is one big story. Its like saying "I read the Godfather, page 200-300, sucks but the rest is good." Each movie plays an important role in the story.

And by the way; Jar Jar was not a flaw. He was specifically put there to be an annoying dumbass that Palpatine could take advantage of.

Edit: Just to say I voted the second option.

This isn't entirely a good analogy. For one thing, the Star Wars story would stand just fine if the prequels were never made, whereas the Godfather novel would probably make no sense if we chopped a hundred pages from the middle.

A better analogy would be to imagine Copolla deciding to tell the backstories of the Godfather characters in a trilogy which precedes the existing one... and in the process he includes many plot elements which conflict with the existing trilogy's storyline, making the entire franhise increasingly nonsensical with each additional film. And oh yeah, in these Godfather prequels the Corleones also have an obnoxious sidekick named Mob-Mob who is very clumsy, steps in shit, and talks like an offensive "Sambo" caricature.

The Star Wars prequels were an offer we could have refused.

Lucas screwed up the SW legacy not only with the prequels, but with the re-edits of the original three movies.

I disagree, I loved the re-edits of the originals, and they were pretty minor - small added scenes, improved sound and picture, some added CGI.

Really, the biggest change was the ending, removing the stupid ewok song and showing celebrations all over the galaxy, giving the victory by the rebels the true scope it was lacking.

And inserting Hayden Christensen into the end of Jedi......... WHY!?

The safe money bet actors that would put asses in seats, are good looking, and aren't horrible would be Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman. I'd go with Josh Brolin as Han Solo though new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif . [Although I guess he's probably 40 or so now eh?] Knowing Hollywood though, they'd probably put that Avatar guy (who imho isn't terrible but is kind of forgettable) or that useless turd from Transformers that Spielberg fancies.

Actually I think Lucas put Jar Jar in there to be an annoying dumbass that I could bitch and moan over. tongue.gif

Maybe that f***ing salamander wasn't a flaw but he was definitely stupid and not the comedy that Boy George Lucas intended

The prequels suck and Lucas' re-working of the OT sucks for the most part. Han. Shot. First. Un-doing that takes away his edge.

On the weekend around the nerd area of downtown (game stores, board game places etc.) I saw a guy with a shirt, in Star Wars font, that said "Han Shot First." It was awesome.
