The vocals were the one thing stopping me from totally getting into these guys. I saw them live for the Ghost Reveries tour and musically they were awesome, but those shitty death metal vocals kill it for me. I know the die hards are pissed about it, but I coldn't be happier. Many old school Opeth fans probably hate this record. Glad the growling shit is gone, although I did love how they changed it up on their last few records. I am cracking through "I feel the dark" right now, it's got the classic Opeth "openings" that I love so much. I'm not particularly crazy about the 70s vintage production, though. Wendy hates this band even though she listens to "Heritage" every night. She hates the growling vocals but I keep telling her that there are none on this album. She doesn't listen to me.
