Maverick
QUOTE (The Owl @ Aug 16 2012, 11:56 AM) Good to hear.... i have noticed by recent setlists that the fan community has kind of bent Opeth's will a bit...when I saw them last October they had no harsh vocals at all and alot of their more proggy and less metally material...Ive seen that their stelists as of the last couple of months are still generally the same as the show I saw, but they have added a couple of the heavier/growling tracks back into their rotation.... Which makes me wonder where Opeth will go from here, I loved Heritage, but alot of their hardcore base did not for their change of direction...I wonder if Opeth will continue along the Heritage path or have the next record back towards the heavier side? I dont think Opeth have any intention of repeating what they've done already, but I think they can still find that balance of their current direction while keeping their heavy sound and satisfy both sides of their audience.. I think I've said this before, but I saw Mikel's video where he talked about making Heritage. He had been writing heavy songs with death growls, but at the time, he just was not feeling it. But he did say they would do that kind of music again. I would be thrilled with a metal album with all clean vocals on it. If they decide they want to be a non-metal proggy band from now on, I guess I will have to take each album as it comes. I'm still not a real fan of Heritage, though it has some great moments. I saw them last November in Baltimore. It was the last show of the U.S. tour, and their last show with Katatonia opening for them. As you probably know, Mikel and Axe are in the band Bloodbath with the two guitar players and lead singer from Katatonia, though he plays bass in this band, and Mikel sings. Bloodbath did a 4 song encore at the end of the show, and it was balls to the wall, make your ears bleed, death metal. It was a general admission show, and I was right in front of the stage at the barrier, just right of center stage. I about got squished several times when the mosh pit opened up behind me. Good times.

(I'm seeing them in the Autumn, Anathema are opening for them) f**k, this is good shit. Just now? Opeth gets even better with repeated listens. The music is haunting and surreal Yeah, I'm way behind on all things Opeth. I meant to start listening years ago, but there's just so much music out there. Started playing Blackwater Park & Heritage yesterday on Deezer. Yowsa. Don't feel bad. I denied Opeth for several years because of the death growls. But I finally bowed to peer pressure last summer (2011) and now I am a huge fan.

Maverick
And for all my Opeth pals out there who may not be fans of Riverside yet, check out Riverside's 2010 rekkid, Anno Domini High Definition (ADHD, as the cool kids call it.) It is a progressive metal masterpiece.
The Owl
Riverside is great... their latest EP "Memories in My Head" is fantastic as well.... cannot wait for their new album, that they're in the middle of making right now...dosen't seem like it will make 2012, but early 2013 is just as great. Have you heard Still Life and Ghost Reveries yet? No, getting through them all one by one on Deezer. Those 2 are up next. Damnation has blown my mind, it's very funereal in atmosphere, but so melodic. Was not expecting that. BUT! Every CD ordered. Should have them all next week. I hope you ordered the special edition 2 disc of Blackwater Park, the bonus songs on disc 2 are fokking brilliant!

Texas King
Awesome metal band, maybe the best metal band from Scandinavia.I love every album from Morningrise till Damnation. But my fave would be Still Life, Blackwater Park is closely second.
