Rush Cocky
Phase 2. These are 3 of their best albums, and it was also the period in which I discovered Rush.
Mara
One AND two, depending on what I feel like listening to at a given time. Three is in hot pursuit.
Rush Cocky
I just went back and looked....there are 3 times as many albums in Phase 1 than there are in 5 & 6 combined. They went from putting out albums at a Beatle-esque pace to a tortoise pace. Question: Should Victor and MFH count for purposes of this analysis? StuartBruce
QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jun 29 2009, 01:25 PM) Question: Should Victor and MFH count for purposes of this analysis? No, not for me. I was trying indicate the vast amount of phenomenal work they threw out in their first 15 years compared to the last 20, as a Band. I agree, Phase 1, 2, or 3 would all do just fine. The last 15 years we have had one album every 5 years, going - Test For Echo Vapor Trails Snakes & Arrows I understand why the Rush newbies think S&A is a classic, but it really isn't. Rush Cocky
QUOTE (StuartBruce @ Jun 29 2009, 09:37 AM) I understand why the Rush newbies think S&A is a classic, but it really isn't. Far from a Rush newbie, I think S&A is among their finest work. I'm not here to rehash the other threads on the matter. But S&A remains in my top 5. It's just a shame that it takes many years to make such an album these days.

Maybe "It just takes me longer -erer-erer, In The End" Just out of interest, What are your top 5? I reckon mine are - Hemispheres, AFTK, PoW, MP & PeW I was just wondering if we were that different? Gompers
Each phase has its own greatness. The weakest phase was the RTB and Preto phase. If they put out another CD as good as S&A, it would almost rival their strongest phase, IMO. VT brings down the last phase. I wouldn't include Feedback in that phase however. It was a tribute to their fav songs.

StuartBruce
QUOTE (Test 4 Gecko @ Jun 29 2009, 02:05 PM) Phase 1. It's when I discoered Rush, and when they were a their best. ATWAS deserves special mention in there too. It is weird, I DID put ATWAS in and later removed it because I didn't put any other live work in. It is so much a part of the furniture it just feels like another album. Rush Cocky - See, we are not that different. I could have switched out PoW for GuP, it is just that I have given PoW a real good listen these last few months and totally rediscovered it. greg2112
FIRST of all, great job breaking down the different phases. Too often ive seen folks stick Signals in with the lame synth period of Pow, HYF, and while there were many synths on that album, it clearly doesnt belong there . It rightly belongs in the phase two, glory years period, last tour/album of the classic rush era. Sorry for the rambling -- PHASE TWO for me! apetersvt
Phase 1 by a long shot. 4 of my top 5 Rush albums. My top 6 albums would be COS-MP. I listen to those 6 more than the others combined (probably be a factor of x3 as well).
