Queen of Megadon
QUOTE (GedHead @ Aug 12 2008, 01:23 PM)QUOTE (Queen of Megadon @ Aug 12 2008, 09:06 AM) You know, I just have to ask...how many of you read THE GREEN MILE when it first came out as chapter books? I remember going crazy waiting for them to come out every month! It was a wonderful way to make the story last longer. I bought every one of the chapter books. I hope they never do that again. I could not wait for it to come out, then you have to run to the store and make sure you got your copy... I can't really pick a favorite SK movie, I've read all his books, but I like my imagination better, the movies don't do the descriptions justice oh! But the an-tici---PA-tion! It did make me crazy...but I am happy to have had that experience.

ReRushed
The Shining mini-series stinks it up big time. I love Kubrick's movie, like most Kubrick movies it gets much better with repeated viewings. I also love The Shawshank Redemption and Misery. And The Green Mile was okay. Presto-digitation
QUOTE (PanaceaFish @ Aug 11 2008, 09:34 PM) Aw wow, I forgot about Rose Red...I have it on DVD, along with the mini series of The Shining, which IMO was truer to the book than Kubric's film... Truer maybe, but not as good.
Presto-digitation
QUOTE (PanaceaFish @ Aug 12 2008, 02:43 PM) I forgot about Misery and The Dead Zone, both are really good movies.. Another honorable mention is Sleepwalkers.... Yes, they are. Good call. Those two would be next up on my list, along with Stand By Me (The Body). Turn Me On Dead Man
QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Aug 12 2008, 01:39 PM) I can't believe no one said Dreamcatcher. I used to love Dreamcatcher, but after I finished the book, I HATED it. The ending to the book is excellent. The ending to the movie is just something they pulled out of their asses. If anyone wants to fully enjoy Dreamcatcher, read the book. Do not see the movie.
circumstantial tree
I read the book for "Carrie" and it is quite different than Brian DePalma's version. Both are good, but to translate the book faithfully into a movie would not have worked as it contained flashbacks to the prom while in the present it was a court scene or something with Sue Snell trying to convince "the White Commission" that telekinesis is indeed a reality. I have the DVD and it contains interviews and they explained that the adaptation directly from the book would not have had as much impact and would have come across less as a horror movie. Trivia: it was a duel casting call for "Carrie" and "Star Wars". Many of the actors were auditioning for roles on both films.
Finding IT
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Aug 13 2008, 06:31 AM) QUOTE (PanaceaFish @ Aug 11 2008, 09:34 PM) Aw wow, I forgot about Rose Red...I have it on DVD, along with the mini series of The Shining, which IMO was truer to the book than Kubric's film... Truer maybe, but not as good. Boy, agreed. Both Jack Nickleson and Scatman Caruthers were HUGE in that movie. The camera behind little Danny Torrence as he rode his big wheel through the empty hotel. The bar scenes and the creepy twin girls in the hallway. The caretaker in the bathroom. Kubrick may not have been true to the plot of the story but he was very true to its theme. Need to find it and watch it again.
circumstantial tree
Whenever Stephen King gets involved with the film renditions, it eventually sucks. The Carrie remake sucked in a bad way. Rose Red "borrowed" from Carrie with the little telekinetic girl causing stones to fall on a house.

Ya_Big_Tree
Lets see: Carrie is my fave book by Stephen King and I really loved the movie too. Shawshank Redemption is an incredible movie! Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins! Stand By Me or The Body as the novella is actually called is another great movie. The Shining is awesome! I know its not like the book at all but I really like that movie. Thinner still freaks the crap outta me, the make up is done really well in the movie. Misery is a classic as well. James Cann and Kathy Bates... Incredible! Oh wait, cant forget Creepshow! Just the first one though, the second one sucks.
