deadwing2112
Wow, what a fantastic band. So far I have heard Free Hand, Octopus( ), and The Power and the Glory. Three Friends is also on the way. GG would easily get my vote for most original band ever. Any other fans?
RUSHHEAD666
I love GENTLE GIANT!! Good thread there DEADWING!!! I love the first four albums. Did you get the remasters in cardboard slipcases?? Japan also did the first four albums in cardboard mini lp cds!! Beautiful man!! Cheers!
priest_of_syrinx
I've got Free Hand, and I love it. Jordan Rudess also does mind-blowing a cover of Just The Same on his solo album, The Road Home, that any Gentle Giant fan should check out. Stormtron
I have a friend that loves them, but most of their stuff is way too over the top for me. Especially the vocals. I do like Free Hand though.

DiscipleofLerxst
I was first turned on to GG in June when Sirius Satellite Radio channel 16 "The Vault" (stuff you NEVER hear on the radio) had a week of prog. They played a lot of Gentle Giant...good stuff. One song that really stood out to me was...now help me out here..I think it was a song about glass houses? Ring abell with anyone? Kudzu
QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Feb 8 2008, 09:17 PM) Japan also did the first four albums in cardboard mini lp cds!! I'm not familiar enough with Gentle Giant to really have much of an opinion on them, but I must say that I love Japan.
Mustard Death
Not sure about most original band ever, but they are pretty great. I like Octopus, Glass House and Power and the Glory. A friend of mine's dad is big into them, and was surprised to find me rocking out when he put them on during a car ride.
LoneStar Boogie
I really tried on a couple of occasoins to get into this band. I always heard them mentioned with Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd as a great prog rock band. Sadly they just don't do anything for me. But I do appreciate their efforts and ambitions. rushgoober
As a 70's prog lover, I have all their early albums. They are undboutedly a great band, but I still haven't been able to get into them as much as I should. I find them VERY challenging listening and I find it hard to put their albums on to get into them like I know I should. I'll try tomorrow some though cause now I'm re-inspired to give them another chance.

treeduck
These guys kind of passed me by like time did for Kubla Khan. Maybe if they were called Evil Giant or Violent Giant I'd have noticed them?
-D-RocK-
Do you think they could have came up with a better band name though?

Hatchetaxe&saw
Been listening to snippets on ProgArchives of late, this is mighty fine Prog!! I always avoided them, because every time I read about them, the words "second tier" or "poor man's Yes" were normally in the article. I've ordered Gentle Giant and Octopus for starters. The debut is probably not a good first choice. Octopus is great. I also recommend Power and the Glory and Free Hand.
the masked drummer
I've got "three friends". It's a cool concept album. Music is very dated but trippy. I listen to it every couple years. http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/images/GG-TF.jpg
