How so? His movies are incredibly varied! P.S. Sofia Coppola is his daughter. Oh yeah, I like his films, but Terry Gilliam is a tad bit overrated, IMHO. Oopsies my bad I thought she was his neice. Meh. Okay, but to be honest I really dont think any of his movies is worth mentioning. Dont get me wrong I love a good mobster movie every now and then and my faves are The Godfather (Coppola) and Casino (Scorcese). IMO He seems to only have a talent for making good Mobster, Mafia movies. The others I didnt think were all that great with the exception of the great Apocalypse Now (of course). Also if you dont agree with my calling some of these direcotrs overrated, ask me and I will be more than willing to explain in detail the reasoning for my opinions. Night Shyamalan... Signs - Crap The Village - over the top, unconvincing, mind-freezing and sleep-inducingly boring. Unbreakable - totally stupid and laughable The Sixth Sense - THE most overrated film of all time, drawn out, slow, boring and a damp squib of a denouement... I totally don't get why this guy's films are popular... I was going to say Shyamalan as well. I just can't get into his films. And his name is a testimate to how bad horror films were in the 90's (other than Silence of the Lambs) . Concidering he made the "best critically acclaimed" horror film in that decade "Sixth Sense". Hell Eli Roth only has 2 films under his belt and he's a better filmmaker that M. Night Shyamalan. I agree with M. Night being overrated, but Eli Roth just wasn't the person to compare him to... Cabin Fever and Hostel? Woah, Mustard Death. Haven't seen you in a while. Overrated directors? M. Night.

Crimes and Misdemeanors and Manhattan Murder Mystery are both very good later era Woody Allen movies. His early films are a riot. Bananas, Sleeper, Take the Money and Run, Love and Death, they're all great. My favorite line from Take the Money and Run: "After fifteen minutes I wanted to marry her, and after half an hour I completely gave up the idea of stealing her purse." But Annie Hall takes the cake. I watched it the other day and it is still one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Edited April 16, 2007 by ReRushed

My favorite of his "early funny ones" is Love and Death, but they're mostly all great, some more than others. I enjoyed his stuff into the early 90's, after which he became very hit and miss for me, being more miss than hit as time went on. A brilliant director though.
