fritz44
I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Nils Lofgren. I wasn't a big fan, but went to a gig a couple of years ago, and he blew me away. The gig was at Newcastle City Hall, and if it was half full I'd be surprised, but he gave it everything, and then some more. Keith Don't Go was outstanding. Caught him last year at the Sage in Gateshead, jam packed with people in suits, because they are on the mailing list for this prestigous venue - pity it's in Gateshead! FRIDGE - Brian Tatler! I didn't think Diamond Head's main man would get a mention - very good live though. Lost interest in the band after they kicked Colin and Duncan out. Anyway back to the thread, my top five:- 1. Nils Lofgren 2. Alex Lifeson 3. Jimmy Page 4. Edward Van Halen 5. Angus Young - Why? Because anyone that can play like that doing his antics live, must have something, even if he has slowed down with age.

Kid_Gloves
Ummm...never really thought about it, but here's a shot in the dark... 1. Alex Lifeson 2. Zakk Wylde 3. Dean DeLeo 4. Dimebag 5. Dave Murray and Adrian Smith Edit: I saw KublaKhan's post and forgot to put Adrian Smith on there Edited September 15, 2006 by Kid_Gloves
RUSHHEAD666
QUOTE (I Get High On You @ Aug 23 2006, 12:57 AM) Obviously, Alex Lifeson is a tragically underrated guitarist. He was inexplicably left off Rolling Stone's Top 100, whereas musicians like Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell (were they even guitarists?) were included. Perhaps the editors had temporarily forgotten what list they were compiling? Or maybe it's just 'cause it's Rolling Stone. Anyway, I love Alex Lifeson's style, but I wouldn't rank him as my very favorite guitarist (though he is in my top ten or twenty). My all-time favorite guitarist is Stevie Ray Vaughan (see avatar). Listening to his solo work makes me want to cry (think Little Wing, Riviera Paradise). He plays so cleanly, with such finesse and skill and sense, but he also pours his heart and soul into every note. Nothing is wasted. And as a bonus, he has a killer bluesy voice. As a side-note, I'd like to pay my dues to jazz greats like Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, and Pat Martino. You are all-too-often neglected! So, what say you? There is no doubt that Stevie Ray Vaughan is the best guitarist ever! He is even above Jimi Hendrix! No one else could ever cover Jimi like Stevie Ray. R.I.P. SRV Rory Gallagher is another one of my favorites! Talk about underrated! The Irish Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! BIG GUNS!

JohnnyBlaze
I glanced this thread and found Slash's f***ing name twice. That should be illegal. To me he's the epitome of a Rolling Stone magazine writer's wet dream. Oh well, I guess anybody can be somebody's favorite. I'd probably go with Eric Johnson, Gilmour or Lifeson
