Union 5-3992
Wow I love this one. A New Beginning is great. Seriously guys I went in expecting a huge revelation, not wanting to dislike it; And I don't really dislike it. I just don't like it either.

But not exactly top of my list. And I feel generous giving it even that.
Union 5-3992
Road to Revolution time. I'll take a bit of a break before disc 2. Either I finish it later tonight or tomorrow morning. I can't do the whole thing all at once. But Road to Rev is a pretty good ending.

shail
Going to the show at the Wlitern in LA in May. Figure it's something to do on a Friday night. Plus it's in Korea town so we get Korean food for din din then walk over to the venue. Good times. Great place to see a band. Saw Steven Wilson there last year. stoopid
Ok so to quote Whitesnake, "Here I go again on my own." I am having a Dream Theater night. "When Day And Dream Unite""Images And Words""Live At The Marquee""Awake""A Change Of Seasons" Nothing touches this era. DT were a unique thing at that time. Those too young to remember fail to understand the impact they made in moving progressive and metal music forward. In those genres they had as much influence as Rush has in rock music. To hear them phone it in (especially the lyrics, but even the many borrowed licks from prior songs) with The Averageness saddens most of us old enough to recall that time. Mickand I'm cool with you feeling like that, BUT I don't think he phoned it in. He is very proud of this album to the point they are only playing the album live. That doesn't equate to "phoning it in"That's all I'm saying.

stoopid
If they didn't phone it in, and this was truly the best effort they have, then they should (and I mean this literally) just kill themselves. Or at least stop making and distributing "music". ;) Songs are a sum of their parts. If the lyrics are horrendous and the music great, it doesn't make the song great. It's as if people are listening to this album listening only to the music, because on the merit of the lyrics alone this ranks as one of the worse albums in prog rock history. I can't personally even think of a more poorly written album. Add to this all the borrowed pieces and nuances from past songs, and it's really a shit show. There's nothing new. There's nothing great. Even their concept ideas aren't original. Give it up. Edited March 25, 2016 by stoopid

Mick Sadly people get cemented in their position, once going public and saying they are for/against something rarely do they backtrack. It's takes a very humble person to admit they're wrong. Unfortunately for a lot of early TA fans, they rushed out with this new found thing and sung its praises. Now that they've been staring at it for a while, in better light, they're finding it aint nearly as pretty as they thought. Will any of them ever admit to this? Very few will. But that doesn't change whether or not this will go down as the laughing stock it is.

Mick It happened to me with Clockwork Angels. Same for me, I liked it initially but the lyrics that I never really connected with really started to become a chore to tolerate on repeat listens. I haven't listened to CA in a long while now, mostly as a result of the lyrics [and Ged's deteriorating vocals].
