Slime Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Off the crossbar, the woodwork, the pipes or whatever else The sports scoring thingie was gonna go in but then PING, BANG, PLONK...or whatever sound it makes. It can cause great relief or massive heartbreak, and sometimes you just wonder HOW that happened. What are the biggest, most important and memorable OFF THE POST moments in sports history??

BastillePark Posted January 24 Posted January 24 This was a huge DOINK for Alabama and one of the most exciting plays ever in college football. It was made sweeter because Nick Satan had to lobby pretty hard to get time back on the clock so they could try the field goal. 1

I dont follow college football until the end, but this is one of my favorite highlights of all time not just because of the play, but the announcer losing his mind! 1
edhunter Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Not sure if these fit the thread topic exactly, but the “Tuck Rule” game in the 2001 divisional playoffs between the Patriots and Raiders. The refs pull an obscure rule out of their asses that no one had ever heard of to make sure the Raiders did not advance. Without that call it’s possible Tom Brady becomes a forgotten footnote in history. Two more incidents happened in the 2004 playoff series between the Yankees and Red Sox. Dave Roberts stole a base and was called safe on a questionable call, in the days before replay review was available. If he’s out, the Yankees win the series. In the same series in game five, one of the Yankees hit a ball down the right field line and it bounced into the stands for a ground-rule double. Replace showed it cleared the wall by an inch. Had it not cleared the wall and stayed in play, Ruben Sierra would have scored from first base, and chances are the Yankees win the game. By comparison, the wall in that same location at Yankee Stadium was higher, and would have kept the ball and play. 1

Tuck Rule Game - Wikipedia I was playing a gig at the time at this dumpy little bar in Salt Lake City called Docky’s. The band I was in kind of sucked and so I was just watching the game from the stage while playing. I wanted the Patriots to win, and when I saw the play, and then that they still held onto the ball I had no idea what the heck had happened. I didn’t have cable or Internet at the time so when I got home at two in the morning, I still didn’t know what the deal was. It wasn’t until I saw the pregame shows for the Sunday games that I learned. As a New England stuck in Utah, I was thrilled for the Patriots. The following year, Oakland was on the first Monday night Football broadcast. The camera kept finding people with sweatshirts and signs that said “IT WAS A f***ing FUMBLE!!” The Raiders never really recovered. 1
