Catching up after being away a couple of days. A lot here would change right now. I know these change day to day, but the day I did this list doesn't match me today much at all.

We tap into Power Windows for the first time with Mystic. Initially my favorite track off that album and it's star has really fallen. I think the effects that first drew me in don't work on me anymore. Still a good song, but last off that album.

But it's better than a few I have higher, at least in my opinion today.

I have the Pass a little better. It's never been a big favorite like for so many. It's good, but just middling good.
Lock and Key, Hand Over Fist, Open Secrets, War Paint, Wish Them Well are all average Rush songs for me. Normally I'd put Mystic above all of them.

Losing It I like much better than this, so I don't know what I was on about the day I did this list. Maybe I'd listened to it too much around that time.

MMB is an instrumental. It's excellent, and sometimes it's higher just because S&A has problems, but most instrumentals fall below lyrical work.

"Mystic Rhythms" is too low!

Mystic Rythms would likely be a top 50 song for me so I clearly rank it higher than you do.

The Pass is somewhere in my top 100 - not totally certain where so, although I would have it higher than you, no major disagreement.

Lock & Key is likely another top 50 song, so again I have it higher than you.

Losing It is likely somewhere in my top 100. Not certain where so no significant disagreement.

Anthem - I will look past the Rand inspired junk (I am actually very left wing) and say the song is somewhere in my top 75. Notwithstanding the Rand message, I enjoy the song. A bit higher than you.

Hand Over Fist - its Presto so the results in it being someplace in my top 100.

Main Monkey Business - its in my top 100. The second song on S & A to catch fire with me.

Open Secrets would be someplace in my top 100 (its HYF so thats a given) so not any huge difference with you.

Wish Them Well is decent but nothing special - I would rank it a bit lower. Likely out of my top 100. Perhaps not by a lot though.

War Paint - more Presto, so that means its another top 100 song for me.

Red Tide - well its Presto which guarantees it being in the top 100. Where? Not certain so no big disagreement.

Marathon I used to rank very highly. At one time it likely would have been a top 25 song for me but has fallen some. Almost certainly still in my top 75 though. Perhaps top 50. So I would have it a bit higher than you do.

Lock & Key is likely a top 50 song for me so I have it higher than you do. No doubt there.

The place I would most disagree with you is Working Them Angeles. For me its a top 20 song.

I`d probably have about 100 songs ranked equally at the bottom, #65, and work from there, so I`m not going to knock anyone who has bothered to listen and rate the real dregs. I`d have The Necromancer Top 20. I like rambling lengthy songs that have pleasing outro solos.

So...I put in Hemispheres today, the pinnacle of the RUSH kimono era, to give it an evaluation in the context of these ranking threads. Here's my reaction...

Beyond La Villa there's not much on Hemi that I'd take over the songs from Caress of Steel. For me, the material from Kings and Hemi are overwrought, laughably so at times. Not a fan of the Cygnus pieces, for example, beyond their intros. The music from both pieces too often seems to venture into complexity for complexity's sake and Neil's lyrics, straining to be profound, too often strike me as just silly. It's always been easier for me to forgive the excesses of Caress of Steel, as the boys were, at the time, young and very, very high. :tongue:

Limbo & Where's My Thing would fall out of the top 100 for me. So I have them lower than you do.

The Necromancer I don't care for - I have it much lower than you. Is is better than Dog Years & Virtuality? Yes. Better than most of VT? Yes. But thats about it. So you can see I rank it very low. Warned you that I had some that would likely shock a lot of folks here. Thats one of them.

Making Memories - feels about right. No disagreement there.

Hope - clearly a top 100 song (IMO). Not certain exactly where so I won't disagree with you.

Getting down into constant disagreement territory as we near the half way point.

Permanent Waves finally loses a track, and odes it one more by losing two. I really like both songs, every single song I really like now. These have always been neck and neck so it's appropriate they're back to back.

Power Windows loses a second song, the last place holder for most fans. That was true for me at one time, too. But it's actually a great song.

Snakes and Vapor both lost two more. Looks like the end point for some of these albums will happen fairly soon.

Not much to say, really. I doubt I killed anyone's favorite.

Getting down into constant disagreement territory as we near the half way point.

Permanent Waves finally loses a track, and odes it one more by losing two. I really like both songs, every single song I really like now. These have always been neck and neck so it's appropriate they're back to back.

Power Windows loses a second song, the last place holder for most fans. That was true for me at one time, too. But it's actually a great song.

Snakes and Vapor both lost two more. Looks like the end point for some of these albums will happen fairly soon.

Not much to say, really. I doubt I killed anyone's favorite.

The first three on the elimination list are songs I don't really like.

On the other hand, I love Ceiling Unlimited, Entre Nous, and Cinderella Man (yeah, I said it, goose) so most of these I have quite a bit different than you.

Beyond La Villa there's not much on Hemi that I'd take over the songs from Caress of Steel. For me, the material from Kings and Hemi are overwrought, laughably so at times. The music from both pieces too often seems to venture into complexity for complexity's sake and Neil's lyrics, straining to be profound, too often strike me as just silly. It's always been easier for me to forgive the excesses of Caress of Steel, as the boys were, at the time, young and very, very high.

You can see here that by Kings and Hemisphere they had pretty much given up smoking pot...

Actually your opinion seems to be common.

Kid Gloves is only okay or outright disliked by so many.

It's in my top 5. Overall. Out of every Rush song. I don't know why I love it so much, but like I said. I'm an outlier here.

Same goes for Countdown. But it's only top 35. Body Electric is top 45.

I'm fine with where you have Halo Effect. And Lakeside Park is bottom 25 for me- so we differ the other way there.

Closer to the Heart is just overplayed, it was on the radio every 5 minutes when I was growing up, and of course I loved it. So I know it's great, but I have so many ahead of it now. Probably first Rush song I memorized.

Marathon builds beautifully, but nevertheless it's a middle song for me.

Cold Fire rocks, but the lyrics keep it in the middle. It's clever, I'm not knocking his writing. I just get bored with most relationship songs.

New World Man, like Closer, was ubiquitous on the radio, so it suffers. Possibly the first song I memorized after Tom Sawyer and Closer to the Heart, though.

Passage used to be my second favorite off 2112, and I played it constantly. But it's so silly. I can't move it further up.

The Larger Bowl is likely in my top 50 so I have much higher than you do.

Everyday Glory is without a doubt in my top 100 - where I am not certain. Likely I have it a bit high than you.

The Way The Wind Blows is clearly in my top 100. Again, where I am not certain. But feels roughly about right. More or less.

Vapor Trails is one of the better songs from that album which means I would rank it much lower than you do. Again, that entire album is bottom fo the barrel for me.

Ceiling Unlimited - ditto for VT. Only its worse, so I would have it even lower.

CA falls way down my list - way outside the top 100. So clearly, I have it much lower than you.

Emotion Detector would be in my top 100 - feels about right.

Entre Nous - likely have it a bit higher than you do. Clearly in the top 100.

Different Strings is a hard song to rank. Sort of moves around based on my mood. Likely would have it slightly outside the top 100. But hard to say.

Cinderella Man -another hard song to rank. No major disagreement with this ranking. Might have it a bit lower but hard to say.

Closer to the Heart is just overplayed, it was on the radio every 5 minutes when I was growing up, and of course I loved it. So I know it's great, but I have so many ahead of it now. Probably first Rush song I memorized.

Marathon builds beautifully, but nevertheless it's a middle song for me.

Cold Fire rocks, but the lyrics keep it in the middle. It's clever, I'm not knocking his writing. I just get bored with most relationship songs.

New World Man, like Closer, was ubiquitous on the radio, so it suffers. Possibly the first song I memorized after Tom Sawyer and Closer to the Heart, though.

Passage used to be my second favorite off 2112, and I played it constantly. But it's so silly. I can't move it further up.

Excellent point about Closer to the Heart. Good song but overplayed. Once upon a time I had it in my top 25 but its really fallen. Feels about right.

Marathon - another song that at one point would have been in my top 25 but likewise has fallen. Might have it a bit higher - perhaps around 75 or so but have not really thought it through that much.

Cold Fire - I like. Neil does not do a lot of relationship songs but those he did were generally good. Might have it a bit higher but no major argument.

New Wordle Man - another song that at one point might have been top 25 but has fallen. Feels more or less right.

A Passage to Bangkok - feels about right but it could move up a little depending on my mood. But basically right.

There has been a lot to work on today.

"Kid Gloves" is an under-rated gem, and I will fight to defend it!

I've always like "Countdown," but I get it's middling for lots of listeners, so that one seems about right..

And while this may seem like a surprise given my establish reputation as a GUP-stan, but "The Body Electric" is the weakest track on that album, and might even be lower -- possibly even at #85.

This grouping gets a B -- there's nothing as offensive as "Grand Designs" at #136!
