I'm guessing Afterimage being as low as it is will be the most hated pick here. We have the first album completely eliminated, and it's Counterparts which probably is a minority opinion. All songs have been eliminated prior to the first song off of MP and Hemispheres. This is probably not that much of a surprise, though some are not huge fans of certain songs on Hemispheres. In any case, hate away!

For me Cold Fire is a solid 100 song. No problem with your ranking. Not really certain where I would have it though.

Carnies - Way outside my top 100. Much lower for me.

How It Is is one of the better songs from VT - which still means I would have it much lower. Way out of the top 100.

Afterimage I would have much higher. Top 50? Yes. Top 30? Perhaps.

Between Sun & Moon - clearly a top 100 song. Not certain where though so not agruement with you.

Bastille Day is great, and sometimes would be far higher. I guess this day it was lower. This is probably about as low as it ever goes.
Fly By Night is had dropped over the years and is rising again. This is probably about right.
Heresy was having a good day. I doubt it ever gets higher than this.
Between the Wheels could be so much higher if they had just decided against the opening, ear destroying notes. If I decide to sit through that, the song is fantastic.
Anagram is a song I love because I love all manner of word play. I love alliteration, anagrams, palindromes, malapropisms, and so on. I understand that exercising that fondness was perhaps unwise, it's thoroughly self-indulgent. Lucky for me I enjoy that indulgence. I do understand why it really grates on people.

Bastille Day & FBN I basically agree with you on. Including that FBN fell some over the years (once upon a time it might have been top 30) and has risen a bit.

Presto follows Counterparts into the "gone" category. I'm sure these songs have some defenders, but we're getting to the point where it's more likely that I have the song too high than too low in the minds of some. Hate away!

My only thought/comment here is that these are all worthy songs -- you must like "Seven Cites" more than I do, but it's a good song -- and the ranking could only be improved if they were moved down a peg or two, possibly by moving back up a song done wrong, like "Grand Designs" at #136!

I can only say that when I made this list I was on a new Rush kick. I do shift over which era holds my attention more at any given time.

It's not that these aren't my legitimate rankings, it's just a matter of what I'm into that day. The bottom songs are always on the bottom and the top are always at the top. Apparently we're in the domain of greatest flux right now.

I have no opinion on Jamaica Inn, I haven't read it. I imagine there would be wrecks aplenty around Cornwall, but I certainly have no bias against the Cornish. I wasn't aware of the connection to the book.

And I'm sure you're right about Red Tide and Big Wheel. Ratings change on any given day and it must have been a very good day for those two.

As a massive fan of Clockwork Angels, I have to say Headlong Flight is only in the middle of that album for me. I have 3 Clockwork songs in my top 40.

Presto follows Counterparts into the "gone" category. I'm sure these songs have some defenders, but we're getting to the point where it's more likely that I have the song too high than too low in the minds of some. Hate away!

Turn the Page is a top 100 song for me so you got that right (IMO). Not certain where in the top 100 though.

Secret Touch is from VT so that means its way outside the top 100. Much lower for me.

7 Cities of Gold is a decent CA song. Might be top 100 - not higher than Turn the Page. Or Cold Fire. Or Afterimage, or Between Sun & Moon, or Prime Mover or Lakeside Park or Hope or Lock & Key or.... You get the idea. Their are a lot of songs already gone that I would rank higher than it. But its decent.

Show Don't Tell is from Presto so that means it will be in the top 100. Not exactly certain where.

The Main Monkey Business is clearly a top 100 song (IMO) so I agree with you there. Not exactly certain where though. But basically I would agree with you.

No hate and other than Secret Touch no major disagreement.

For me Red Tide is a top 100 song. No problem with the ranking.

The Big Wheel is decent but nothing special. I agree it should be lower - likely outside oi the top 100.

One Little Victory - I agree it should be much lower. Way outside the top 100 for me. But again, I don't like VT so that can't be a shock.

Nobody's Hero is likely a top 100 song but I agree it should be lower. For example, I would have Red Tide, Anagram, Between The Wheels, FBN, Working Man, Bastille Day, Cold Fire, New World Man, Marathon, Closer to the Heart, The Larger Bowl & Everyday Glory all ranked above it - all songs you ranked below it.

Wrechers is a decent song. Likely top 100 but nothing I am wild about. Would rank it lower.

OK, I know which of these picks will get the most hate. And I get it. But I have a very personal reason for rating this song so high. As my dad was dying of Alzheimer's, I would go to work and get to the bus stop early and listen to this song and In the End and try to deal with what was happening. So hate away, but all I will say in response is also one of the songs that will be on tomorrow's list. Is it a better song than the ones above it? Not really. But this is my list so this is how it is and how it's going to be.

Rivendell is gorgeous. I tend to drop the slow songs (Madrigal, Tears) quite a bit. But Rivendell has a building moment, nice and subtle, that has always grabbed me.

Because you had to double check that you read that right. 2112 at 62.

Now of course it's sometimes higher. I love every song at this point.

So why does the iconic 2112 drop so much? Because I don't like some of the sections. The opening through Temples would be top ten for sure. The ending is fantastic. Some of the middle is just not my thing at all. So it drops.

BU2B and How it Is, like many songs coming, can't hold a candle to the great moments in 2112. But overall I like them more.

Some very very popular songs are in my top ten, I'm not just trying to be a contrarian.

You say, "Because you had to double check that you read that right. 2112 at 62.". Actually, you have it at 63rd. (I double checked.) :wink: . Certainly that dwarfs my high ranking of Rivendell for shock value.

2112 is much, much, much higher on my list. Strangely enough, we agree in our assessment of each of the parts. If you put the first two parts and the Grand Finale together, you would get the best Rush song of all time and it wouldn't be close. (Though the story would be pretty confusing to non-existent.) Our differences occur with how much to drop the song for the slow parts. I don't drop it as much as you did because the transcendent highs are so sublime and those parts wouldn't have been recorded without the whole.

It could be argued that without 2112 the rankings would be 1-27 and there would be no TRF, so that needs to affect the rankings as well, IMO.

"Sweet Miracle" is one of the meh tracks that belongs somewhere in the 75-125 range, so this doesn't seem too bad; I'm already on record about "The Wreckers;" I've never personally enjoyed "Rivendell" all that much, but the mid-60s doesn't feel like too much of an overreach; "MalNar" might even be higher; but it's "New World Man" that surprises me most, honestly. Other than the baffling downgrading of "Grand Designs," of course.

This grouping gets a B+.
