Entre_Perpetuo
This is an enormous question that has no good reason to be asked except that I like seeing what other people like. In case the question is worded confusingly, here's an example of what a post might look like. Btw, I'm picking albums off the top of my head for this example, these are absolutely not my final choices on these years... as if I could ever come to those, lol. 1975: A Night At The Opera, Physical Graffiti, Another Green World 1976: A Day At The Races, 2112, Jailbreak 1977: News Of The World, A Farewell To Kings, Animals 1978: Hemispheres, Jazz, U.K. 1979: London Calling, Breakfast In America, Lodger 1980: Permanent Waves, The Game, Zenyatta Mondatta 1981: Moving Pictures, Escape, Tattoo You 1982: Signals, Screaming For Vengeance, Abacab 1983: Genesis, Thriller, Synchronicity 1984: Grace Under Pressure, The Works, Purple Rain Yeah, absolutely not my definite final answers... though probably every single Rush and Queen album on there would be in my final answers, lol.
custom55
These are the albums that got me through high school and college. zepphead
Very tricky this .... I have gone for 1970 - 1979 which were pretty much my musical formative years. However ...... to pick my favourite three from each year is proving impossible (particularly in the early to mid '70s). So I have picked three from each year which meant a lot at the time (for various reasons!!), but also stayed with me over the years. 1970 - Layla & Assorted Love Songs, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin III 1971 - Zeppelin IV, Who's Next, Hunky Dory 1972 - Close To The Edge, Ziggy Stardust, Harvest 1973 - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd , Billion Dollar Babies 1974 - Secret Treaties, Bridge Of Sighs, Burn 1975 - Physical Graffiti, Minstrel In The Gallery, Force It 1976 - 2112, Rainbow Rising, Sad Wings Of Destiny 1977 - Running On Empty, A Farewell To Kings, Marquee Moon 1978 - Excitable Boy, The Kick Inside, Stained Class 1979 - Breakfast In America, Black Rose, Rust Never Sleeps So much left out, but I will settle on this as a first try.

The Cat 3
Thank you for hurting my brain again Entre_Perpetuo! I selected 1976 - 1985 Although I may have made it worse by limiting my selections to studio albums only. (no live albums or compilations). I also limited my selections to albums that we’re actually my favourite albums in the years chosen, not necessarily my favourite albums today. And I added the additional challenge of not repeating a band or artist throughout the 30 choices. Yikes! zepphead
Segue has gone with a full blown list with about a dozen from each year ..... I felt however that part of the charm and challenge of this thread was actually sticking to three albums each year - it somehow brought back into my head all of those albums I had to leave out. But that's only my look at things.

Derek19
I decided to do one of these from 1981-1990. In the '80s, there were a lot more classic c.ds, and albums like in the '70s. They aren't my favorite c.ds, and albums, but are my favorite, and some of my close, top favorite bands, groups, and artists, some of what I was listening, and I'm still listening to this day, and for '80's music, what stands out to me. I didn't include live, greatest hits', compilations', and EP's c.ds, and albums. I have left some out, but I can do another one for the same ten years, and a different ten years. (1981) Moving Pictures - Rush October - U2 Point of Entry - Judas Priest *High 'N' Dry - Def Leppard (1982) Signals - Rush Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest the Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden *Never Surrender - Triumph (1983) War - U2 Pyromania - Def Leppard Piece of Mind - Iron Maiden *Synchronicity - the Police (1984) Grace Under Pressure - Rush Defenders of the Faith - Judas Priest Powerslave - Iron Maiden *the Unforgettable Fire - U2 (1985) Power Windows - Rush Call of the Wild - Lee Aaron the Big Prize - Honeymoon Suite (1986) Turbo - Judas Priest Somewhere In Time - Iron Maiden Rage For Order - Queensryche (1987) Hold Your Fire - Rush the Joshua Tree - U2 Hysteria - Def Leppard *Lee Aaron - Lee Aaron (1988) Ram It Down - Judas Priest Seventh Son of A Seventh Son - Iron Maiden Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche (1989) Presto - Rush Bodyrock - Lee Aaron Rockland - Kim Mitchell *Simple Mission - Glass Tiger (1990) Empire - Queensryche Painkiller - Judas Priest No Prayer For the Dying - Iron Maiden *Monsters Under the Bed - Honeymoon Suite Edited November 13, 2023 by Derek19

I honestly think Formation gives Dark Roots serious competition, and I'm still not always sure if I rank them above The Legacy or New World Order. Totally agree. All I was saying was that the limit made it more of a challenge. In my case, I could have listed 20+ for each of the early '70s years but just picked three that had great sentimental attachment at the time. But i have left out all sorts like Rory Gallagher, Wishbone Ash, Genesis, Uriah Heep, Queen, Boston etc etc which is no slight or oversight, just part of the fun!!

For me, their entire run is phenomenal, but I'd say Low to Titans is where its at for me. The Ritual is an excellent radio friendly metal album, but it breaks the streak if talking the debut to now. I am honestly a much bigger fan of Testaments first four albums than I am Slayer or Metallica. The more I listen to Megadeth and Anthrax, the less certain I am that eighties Testament is far and away my favourite run of the US thrash bands.
