Paradise Lost- Icon

Paradise Lost- Icon 30

So call me crazy. Icon is one of my all time great metal albums. I don't care if you haven't heard it, and you can list fifty titles that are more famous

Eat my poo

Anyway, its one of my all time greats. So imagine the MEH response when the band announced they were re-recording it for its 30th anniversary.

And I ignored it on release, even though, admittedly, the singles impressed me.

Well, I'm hooked on both versions. Icon as it was is a great album recorded low budget, by a band that had rapidly gone from an extreme sound to one almost ready to dominate charts. All in four years. So, the songs are great, and it was their best production up to that point. I've always felt the reason it became immediately overshadowed by Draconian Times is simply due to the fact that DT sounds so much better.

I was right.

Icon 30 remarkably sounds exactly like the original, but beefed up and the band on all fronts sounds more experienced and confident. There is no drastic changes made to any of the songs or arrangements. It's just...Well...PL are a better band now than then, and Nick Holmes is a much better vocalist.

I can't believe it but...they made Icon an already favourite album even more favouriter.

Oh what's wrong? That isn't a real word? Oh well

Paradise Lost- Obsidian

I wasn't in the mindset for this in 2020.

It now has my whole heart.

Monday:

Fall Out Boy - Take This To Your Grave (Vinyl)

Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Vinyl)

Koyo - Would You Miss It? (Vinyl)

EP and Segue, I think you might like Koyo. They're heavily influenced by 2000s bands like Taking Back Sunday. I'm seeing them again next month.

I just haven’t been playing a lot of albums lately. I did however listen to Radiohead’s No Surprises 22 times in a row yesterday.
