JohnRogers
Listen, Jack, I like trains. That's my calendar on the wall. Still, when I have to drive or Uber to the train and the journey is going to take me 90 minutes more. I'll drive every time. You side stepped my approval reform remark. What's approval reform, fill me in what's going on and what we should do I'm of course not saying everyone should take trains everywhere for every trip. If you're urban and you live 1/4 mile from a train station and your destination is 1/4 mile from another train station, the train makes sense. If your destination is 300 miles away and you live five miles from a 180mph HSR station, the train makes sense. If you're driving from no-transit suburbia to somewhere else, the train isn't going to make sense. The distance/time train "triangle of supremacy" is real, though. The whole infrastructure game needs reform. In this day and age with the technology we have there shouldn’t be massive price hikes, projects going way over schedule. The approval/permitting, study and all the other shit should happen much faster. Frankly, this is something that Trump should’ve taken care of during his first administration. Where is Mayor Pete? Mayor Pete is busy allocating the billions. He's in charge of more money than any other modern transpo secretary, by far. I work in the construction industry. No amount of "technology" can make up for the fact that steel, concrete, and asphalt cost way, way more than they used to, and prices just keep rising. That's not any particular organization's irresponsibility, it's just the reality of modern construction. Go get a quote to repave a driveway and let your jaw drop. Approval/permitting takes longer than it used to. I deal with that every day, because I seek government approvals for my projects. California HSR's full environmental approval JUST happened, and it took FOREVER. That said, I think a lot of people forget that many building/construction regulations and codes are written in blood. Fire code is the most obvious.

I play both sides so that I always come out on top. I took a great train ride to Germany where a few days later I hopped in a great sports car, deal with it bro Trains dominate in the 200-600 mile zone if you're going between urban areas, that's just reality. Cars make sense for smaller destinations, and smaller destinations will always exist. I'm not advocating to replace car trips to Moab with a train lol. That One Guy
You know if Trump wins, I would respect him if he used his second term to try and bring some unity to the country. That'd be a good legacy. Don't need to worry about a third election or pissing off certain republicans. Prime opportunity to actually be that Washington outsider doing good for people. Yeah that’s what I ogled and discussed with owner today. Didn’t know it existed. But I’d rather just have a base and save the money. Heat pumps are impressive. Moving heat energy is more efficient than creating heat energy. 95% efficient natural gas furnace? No thanks, I want a 500% efficiency heat pump

When temps get really cold (teens or lower) I assist with a space heater but other than that it keeps us comfortable. Interesting that they're finally getting more popular here but our house in Okinawa had one in 1984.
