blueschica
OK, so I'm not really collecting donations, but sending cooling thoughts to any European TRFers! "Britain is bracing itself for its hottest day ever today with temperatures expected to hit 102ºF (39ºC) amid health warnings and misery for travellers on what is being dubbed 'Tropical Thursday'. Temperatures were already at 77ºF (25ºC) in Royal Berkshire by 7am today after people struggled to sleep in the heat. Commuters are warned to stay at home amid fears rail tracks will buckle and roads will melt. The heatwave has been caused by what is known as an 'Omega Block', where high-pressure blocks and diverts the jet stream, allowing hot air to flow up from northern Africa. It follows another heatwave in June. There was a similar scene across much of Europe. The Netherlands and Belgium recorded their highest ever temperatures yesterday of 102ºF (39.1ºC)."
