"Let's Celebrate The 80's"

That Queensryche album was released in 1990.

I thought that was a nineties' song too.

That song didn't become a hit until 1991 I believe. Here's some 80s Ryche.

http://youtu.be/xk84dVq644k

I was thinking early '92 because that's when I became aware of it, but you're probably right.

Just checked - it says it was recorded in the Spring of 1990 - song released February 14, 1991 - so says Wiki

That seems about right. The album took a little bit to take off. It wasn't until Silent Lucidity was released that it broke huge.

Can't forget Wang Chung either.

Or The Smithereens.

One great band after another. It was nonstop for years. I lived through the sixties and the seventies, and I still think the eighties is the best.

I was born in '58, but the first song I have a memory of is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", which I remember standing in a crib like structure while my sister babysat me along whith her new daughter in the fall of '61. My sister was about as nuts about music as I became. '60s and the '70s were in a tie for favorite decades for me. My Two favorite bands, The Beatles, and RUSH were in those two decades, I admit that the '80s were also prolific, but not as ground breaking as the former decades.

That was the only other song, next to Barracuda, that I liked by them.

The song still makes me tear up too, even after all these years.

I love ALL of Heart.

Can't forget Men At Work either. They had a slew of hits.

My favorite from them.

They had so many good songs. I always got a laugh from the Who Can It Be Now lyrics.

Hard to say which song they did is my favorite.

Ever have a 'Vegemite' sandwich? I've seen it in stores...

One of the catchiest first few seconds of any song ever, and it’s not even the chorus (most songs that pull off super catchy starts begin with the chorus...or a riff).

That whole album is great. One of my favorite debuts of all time that’s on the short list with Living Colour and Boston’s firsts.

Not surprisingly, these guys are on my A list. I've got their stuff up till 2006...On the Diamond Days album, the song "John Lennon" was a favorite of mine...

The dance is tonight, not the other day as I thought. :dweez: Would anyone like to take me? :) You wouldn't want me sitting in a corner crying into my glass of club soda, would you? :| ;)

In any event, as I walked through the grocery store this morning, I was singing this tune out loud. I got a few strange looks.

:musicnote: ..So let's sink another drink

'cause it will give me time to think ... :musicnote:

I would have taken you, Lorraine! Even though I never learned how to dance correctly. I can slow dance perfectly though...

The school down the road that had the 80's dance Friday night is blasting this song over their outdoor loudspeaker right now:

Speaking of Jon and friends, here's an 80's tune they did which is the only song they ever did that I ever liked. It's also one of my favorite MTV videos:

People seem to have so many 'rules' about what they like and what they discard. Once I like something, I pretty much like it. No matter what the band does in later years....I like ALL of Bon Jovi. etc.

Riding a steel horse. just stupid! :)

I view that as a 'times' update... kinda like The Osmond Bros. did with the song "Crazy Horses".

Hall & Oates need more love in this thread.

http://youtu.be/JsntlJZ9h1U

The trio of albums from Voices to H2O had some fun songs. And at one point as a 5th grader in ‘82, my top 3 bands were Rush, Journey, and Hall & Oates. I don’t really listen to Hall & Oates anymore but when one of those early 80s classics crosses my path, it takes me back to all the song-associated, fond memories.

"Big Bam Boom" was my fave H&O album..."Method of Modern Love" my fave song...

I'm a few years younger than you. I was in kindergarten around the time this song hit it big. Being a kid back in the 80s my whole life was MTV and Nintendo. Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis & the News, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi were my favorite bands back then.

Daryl Hall can out sing anyone. A great singer. Robert Fripp agrees.

Why do you say that? Not challenging you, just curious as to what would make him such a great singer.

Genetics, your own ears...

Rhyta, thanks for posting this. It's a great song. I really liked it. :)

You're right about it being catchy.

Thanks for putting up the video, I love the roller skating in it, so 80's :D

Not allowed in the U.S. by the production company....I'd like to see it also...

Think about the millions of people who still remember Tommy Tutone’s Jenny’s phone number! That was 38 years ago and I still got her number!

Yeah, it's a song that quells one of those old "What do I need to learn this for?" school questions! lol It's SAD that we learn more from video than we do from school!. Sesame Street and alla that stuff started that. And while that's good, in a way, it's still not the way the world worked when I was young.
