Permanent-Rush
Never was my bag. They’re like The Cure, right? Nope, The Cure is more Punk/Rock, and the Smiths are more Indie Rock.

Tears For Fears aren't gay, they are just a Pop/New Wave band from the 80's I love.

toymaker
I don't believe I've ever heard an entire Smiths album. I do know that How Soon Is Now song, though. Not a bad tune, but never made me want to go out and buy any of their records. Perhaps these lists will give me a place to start
custom55
I have only two songs. 1. How Soon is Now --- Although Paradise Lost's version is better :finbar: 2. What Difference Does It Make ( THE PEEL SESSIONS )

JohnnyBlaze
Are there any without Morrissey's vocals? I never liked The Smiths really but I saw a Johnny Marr (the guitarist) solo show at a rock festival a few years ago. He was pretty good. No Morrissey was a bonus. :P
Rutlefan
My favorite band of my college years, until I discovered Wire. Still a huge Johnny Marr fan; along with Gilmour and Alex, my favorite. Perhaps these lists will give me a place to start Louder Than Bombs and the earlier Hatful of Hollow are 2-disc collections of non-LP tracks (eg, from singles and Peel Sessions); these are essential and a great place to start. Hatful of Hollow showcases their earlier raw sound (though the distinct How Soon is Now? is not at all raw) whereas Louder than Bombs is a mature Smiths unconstrained by the LP format. My favorite. Here's track # 3 (the first three tracks are one of the best 1-2-3 openings of any collection by anyone): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRDzk1o-ykA Edited January 25, 2018 by Rutlefan
